I always said it. The best camera in the world would have Pentax's optics, weather sealing and ergonomics, Canon's sensors, A/D converters and AF speed & accuracy and Nikon's flash & ambient light metering and 3D AF tracking!
and what would this camera be named?
PenCanNik? CanPenKon?
CanTaxNik? NikCanTax?

Good question! How about Pentax, formerly known as Nikon formerly known as Canon? Let's just get rid of these "on" names!

Or Pencakon? Cakonax? Nikentanon? Penkinanon? Capenkon? Nikanontax?

This is the same quote from reviewers we will see with the K-5. "Pentax K-r doesn't really offer any new 'killer features' but nevertheless comes with a few new functionalities"

Last time I checked, Cologne wasn't in Japan though. And I checked recently for my travel itinerary
I thought the news was coming out of Japan first. So, Pentax's official website in Japan will not have the news before something out of Germany? Confused here as to what site that could be?

The point is that Pentax have c*cked up the marketing of this product big time. All the other manufacturers have got their main Photokina announcements out of the way before the opening, and put preproduction models in the hands of the photo mags.

I've just bought this month's edition of Chasseur d'Images, France's main mag. They rave about the K-r; but also about the D7000.

Pentax - boat seriously missed. It really doesn't matter how good or bad the K5 is, it's already dead in the water.
I,m not sure it would be any better if they did it another way. Announcing at the same time (or very close to) D7000 would make any more attention? I doubt!
Announcing much earlier? It would be the old news by Photokina then.
After all, it's Pentax and not everybody get's easily excited about it. Those ones who do, are waiting for the news.

Too late for this generation - that was the K-r 's prerogative. In terms of sales and production costs I think they decided for funky colours over weathersealing. I think the K-r is already creeping up in price and adding weathersealing would probably put it square above the prices of the 500d / 5000d which kills the point/value
Actualy I was thinking more of something between K-r and K-5

i hope that the shipping time is soon after the announcement, by all accounts it seems a step forward for Pentax. I think i am going to lay down the pennies to get this one. I love the brand, and enjoy shooting with Pentax, maybe this iteration of their high-end offering will finally start convincing people to take them serious. I usually get blank stares when i tell people i shot Pentax. They are so under rated.

I'm hoping the announcement will show a lot more development into WR lenses and such. I really don't want to buy a lens or body without it now.

I am hoping the camera will have new tech in it developed by pentax and not just the stuff that came with the sony sensor ie iso capabilities etc

I really want to see what is announced Monday, and later some reviews. Last time Pentax got me this excited about a new model, I bought it! (K10D..and would have a K-7 but....)

Wouldn't it be great if, in addition to the K-5, Pentax announced a K-7+ with upgraded sensor? I'd take that even if the sensor was 12mp instead of 14mp. Hey, I can dream like everyone else.

And let's not forget the need for an unambiguous lens roadmap - a lot of Pentaxians want this more than anything else. Without it, I suspect many of us will still feel like we're twisting in the wind - regardless of how good any announced camera bodies might be.

Less than two days to go... please, Pentax... don't disappoint us!

Well according to the current news,

we'll be surprised if:

FPS more than 8fps;
The main LCD will be vary angle or tiltable;
viewfinder will be 100% x0.95 or better;
17 or more AF points in the viewfinder;
dual sdxc;
AF better than 7d or 300s in terms of speed and accuracy
ISO range will be 50-25600;
flash sync will be 1/250 right away;
movie mode will have full manual control and AF;
more control over HDR; ability to have tonemap the hdr by ourselves, also 2sec.
timer available in hdr mode;
updated design of main menu;
many new features, dual axis leveler that measures also the tilt of the camera

the new feature of the camera that no one else have - built in ND6 filter

Price 1499$

two or more new lenses announced; not counting already announced 35/2.4

We expect it to:

have at least 7fps;
AF much better than K-7 almost on par with 7D and 300s;
ISo 80-25600;
dual sdhc;
flash sync 1/180 with old flashes and 1/250 with new.
movie mode with more manual controls;
much faster CDAF;
more control over HDR; also 2sec. timer available in hdr mode;
intervalometer more than for 99 shots
Price 1599$

one or more new lens released 18-135WR; some lens roadmap

And we will be dissapointed if:

fps will be less than 7FPS
AF will not be significantly better than K-7;
ISO will be 100-25600;
flash sync 1/180;
not dual sdhc;
no manual controls for video;
not significantly faster CDAF;

price 1699$

just one new lens released and no new lens roadmap..

well this is at least my condiion.

of course there are more but couldn't remember instantly..

what are your surprised, expected, and dissapointed conditions?
