I keep failing to see why people are calling this a D7000 killer. It is equal to or beaten by the D7000 in most aspects, except for the 6fps vs. 7fps. I understand that this spec sheet may not be fully right, but can someone please tell me how the K5 beats the D7000?

As the base ISO is 100, then the gain has to be increased more for the same high ISO's than if the base ISO was 200 (right?), so I must say I'm surprised to see ISO 5.2K. The sensor must be pretty darn good for them to even attempt it. It will be interesting to see how the K-5 with base ISO of 100 compares to the demonstrably excellent sensor in the K-r with base ISO of 200 at higher ISO's.

This makes me happy. Very, very happy. 5.2k ISO...very very happy. 6400iso should be super clean then (I hope).

I think the term "Camera X Killer" is silly in the first place, especially for Pentax. Even if the K-5 turns out to be better than the Nikon, I doubt it will sell nearly as well just because of the Nikon brand name. How about it's a good Nikon D7000 competitor and we can leave it at that?

I can imagine that 51,200 is going to be complete garbage. Probably just a marketing tactic. Also I doubt 6400 will be usable. The D7000 is using the same sensor and even it's 3200 isn't that amazing, which means 6400 won't be great at all. I know we all want awesome things for Pentax, but I doubt it will happen. Just like AF, I doubt it will be that much better than previous generations. I hope I am wrong.

Agreed. Pretty much it all comes down to price now. As long as it is within some reasonable distance to the D7000, it will be a player. But if the MSRP that has been tossed around sticks, it will probably be a no go for a lot of people, including myself. I really want to stick with Pentax, but seeing how I have so little invested in Pentax, it may be a better long term choice to switch to Nikon.

Highly relevant in the 1960's, refusing to die ever since?

(I say this as a fan of both Pentax and Bob.)

damn... not sure if I should pick up a k-5 or k-r as a second body. have the k-7 already.

May as well go for the 5...

Hell.. not sure why I am even feeling a bit let down... it's an improved k-7, what else do I need.

A beer... thats what.
i find it funny that a few months ago everybody was saying they just wanted a k7 with a kx sensor. now they are gettimg a k7 with an even better sensor, better af, etc etc.. and they are disappointed. i don't envy pentax, with the kind of customers they have to deal with

What is that "Electronische 3D Nivelieranzeige" In the 1st page of the specs? Or did I miss someone explaining this already?

That is basically the 645D's level. Not only horizontal like in the K-7, but also vertical.

14bit RAW and an increase in resolution look promising, don't you think?
Unfortunately more megapixels have been crammed into the sensor. If there were fewer it would have put me in a more optimistic mood. But before I see images I will reserve judgement on such things. Until then I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic.

That would sort of stop innovation, wouldn't it?
We have seen some totally arbitrary and unnecessary changes between K20D, K-x, K-7 etc. I am glad the K-5 is sticking with a good thing (maybe not the best, but good enough). Innovation in ergonomics can continue without moving buttons around.

Your logic is specious. Not everybody was asking for a K-7 with a K-x sensor. If you wish to address your comments to specific people who did want that and are now disappointed, please do.

Thanks, though I thought K-7 already had all dimensions, but apparently not.

7 vs 5.2 is minor
more MP at APS-C is worse.
HDR is not interesting
AF - need to check...
11 AF points are a bit odd for very fast AF-C :ugh:
video is for video fans

marketing says - FASTER, HIGHER AND STRONGER

The users think only about MP and noise above ISO800...
But the real IQ at CMOS APS-C is worse and worse...

OK, we get it OGL. My god, you are like a broken pessimistic record. Do you EVER have anything nice to say about Pentax. Does anyone else cringe every time this guys posts appear, like "what ridiculously arrogant thing is he gonna say next?".

Are you really a "Proud K200D owner"?
Ok, rant over.
