Why do you complain about no #d Tracking, 3d tracking is just a marketing bullshit. It's a word for "we have a sophisticated af-c system". Moan about af-c when it'll get tested can you?

On the other hand i wonder when we will finally see the new sophisticated af tracking system by pentax, double cardslots and so on.. I know that i have been leaving with one slot ever since but it still would be nice.

But what about IQ?
The D7000 could just as well have 1200 additional functions and still end-up in the dust due to image quality.
do you really expect considerable IQ differences from the same sensor?

At least the K-5 shoots DNG files so it won't take long for RAW files to get posted and processed in LR3. We might see real K-5 reviews posted before some of the others just because there is no need to wait for RAW converter updates.

Better get on that

Incidentally, I think Pentax needs to outsource the proofreading of its spec sheets to this board. I bet we'd all do fine work for $5 an hour.

yes. compromise being it can only carry 8 of those in its buffer at a time, or just over a sec of continuous shooting.

you'd think that they could afford a tripod for the video camera in the Pentax Colorado offices...

Adam, in your K-5 specs you have the weights reversed (seems contagious today )

But weight is yet another area of inconsistancy:
K-7 was 670g empty 750g with battery and card

K-5 according to Adam and to the English spec sheet is 660g empty and 740g w/ battery and card (somewhat surprising to drop 10g)

K-5 according to dpreivew is 670g empty

K-5 according to pentax-imaging (US official site) is 670g empty, 750g with battery and card

Not quoting K-9 but just generally as he's not responsible for the statement but was just re-quoting CNET, but just an FYI this came from one of K-9's posts...

When Pentax briefed me on the K-5, its latest midrange dSLR--midrange for the market as a whole, but at the top of Pentax's food chain--its PR spokeswoman downplayed the announcement. "It's just an updated version of the k-7," was the gist of her pitch.
...And here I thought there was this thing called a 645D...

With marketing like that who needs enemies?

That is a theory. But theories need to be tested.
Ok, right, but it's in the official spec sheet, in German and also in English:
"ISO Auto: from 100 to 12800, ISO Extended: from 80 to 51200."

Same in the K7 sheet:
"ISO 100 - 3,200. Expandable to ISO 6,400"

with no confirmation sound like the K-7, it was obviously set to frame rate priority. who knows how many frames of that AF-C video are actually in focus.
Yep, that's the real test...AF-C 15 gazillion FPS is meaningless if 10% are in focus. AFAIK, none of the review sites have added this testing to their reviews and you'd think it'd be something they would

hopefully extended exposure NR set to "OFF" really means OFF. also would be interesting to see if they've been able to address falconeye's shutter-induced blur report.

The specs are the specs. I was referring to your theory on why Pentax lists an expandable ISO range. Your theory may be right at least in part. However, an alternative theory is that it is supposed to be usable on some level in the expanded mode otherwise they wouldn't expand it.

My two cents:

If the biggest complaint you naysayers can come up with is a typo in the spec sheet I'd say Pentax has done a pretty good job here. It looks to me that Pentax has addressed every perceived shortcoming the K-7 had and produced a camera that can run with the best APS-C cameras from Nikon and Canon.

Combined with a WR 18-135, I don't think the K-5's competitors can touch it. Add some Limited primes and I know they can't.

Pete
