I couldn't agree more. Be excited or complain, but be aware that we haven't yet seen this camera in action. We haven't yet viewed pictures or examined the new autofocus system or seen how it will work at the higher ISOs. Is the ISO going to be that much better than the K-7? Probably, but we don't really know that yet. Remember most of us thought the ISO on the K-7 was going to be significantly better than it was on the K-20. It wasn't. However, the autofocus was a very significant improvement.

I for one will be keeping up with what's going on but wait until the reviews start coming in at which point we'll all have a better idea of whether this camera represents a small upgrade, or a "O My Gosh" this is really nice move forward!

Easy made-up tip:

"D" comes after "C" in the alphabet, so the D appears after the Canon numbers.

"D" comes before "N" in the alphabet, so the D appears before the Nikon numbers.

No, weather resistant does not mean an underwater camera, only splash/rain proof. I've seen complaints here about a K20D got broken after after giving it a shower, at the 20'th time. Guess he/she did opened the tap too much that time. Or was it a K-7?

At least it is not the Tokina 16-135 rebranded, that would have been easier.
The Tokina for sure is not the greatest lens, but building a new one they probably improved.

The K-5 will be in my pocket latest end of november - we will see if it is attached to the 18-135 then. Can´t wait to put my fingers on it, end of this week when I visit the Photokina

this combo is a winner for me too. the price is no different than a nikon 18-135 VR or a canon 18-135 IS...lens plus its weather sealed and has this new DC motor that is suppose to be incredibly fast.

Yes, of course!
It's a classic. The promoter is dunking the camera into a bucket of water. Seen with my own eyes.

But of course, this is not a realistic test.
Long term rain is more problematic.

As weather-resistance is a huge feature of the K-series and the WR lenses, it seems a tad odd that their is no provision for replacement/repair of potentially-affected equipment at minimal/zero-cost to a photog. I know my D700 was weather-resistant, my old 1D2 was weather-resistant, and the 60D is claimed to be weather-resistant, so I'm confused when I read on here that the main advantage of the new K-5 compared to its competition is weather-resistance. I have a hard time including a feature that has not been comparatively evaluated or warrantied.

Is there an independent lab that has conducted WR tests to say whether camera "A" is better/worse than camera "B" in this regard??

!tethering = not worth the price premium to update from the K20D for my needs...not sure I am willing to live w/o tethering in the "new" bodies anymore either. Even with the more costly glass the 7D (can be found new on sale for as low as $1100 these days) is looking better for my needs every day. Color me deflated because I enjoy the glass but not this glaring omission in the body.

phase detection is used by DSLRs - a more fast and accurate method that doesn't involve the main sensor.

Contrast detection is used by point and shot camera and by DSLRs when in Live View - it autofocuses the lens by analazing the contrast of the image (or area of the image) captured by the main sensor.
