I actually haven't tried the video on the K5 yet so I couldn't say. I do know what you mean about the noise as I recall hearing it the couple times I tried video on the K7 and Kx, so I can check that later tonight for you.

Please do. I suspect the 'clattering' is still there, by how much is what I'm curious about.

Out of curiosity, do you shoot video with or without SR?

Clattering? Is this some video artifact consistent to Motion Jpeg format, or only a Pentax aberration with their use of it?

Clattering?
According to my dictionary, it is pretty clear what "clatter" means

And from the context, I am sure everybody meant the audible noise you hear (and record) when the SR linear motors work to shift the sensor around to compensate shake. An external micro makes in unaudible though.

Ah so it refers to the audio, not video. No probs, I turned that off after first try with my dumb K-x anyway.

On playback there was so much whirring and grinding and clunking picked up from inside like it was a heavy excavation site during busy shift so couldn't have heard mere clattering anyway.

Video wasn't too bad though, bit like the choppy expected feed from an early Soyuz space capsule on long ago depleted batteries at times but still more interesting than watching advts on commercial TV.

With.

Are you saying the SR creates the clattering?

do you know if the mic has any noise canceling or is it just not sensitive enough to pickup the in-body noise?

I did no formal test. But At least, I didn't notice it picking up the SR noise. The mic I use is isolated from body vibrations (rubber strings, Rode stereo video mic). Maybe, it helps a bit too.

thanks Falk...the specs I've read didn't mention any noise canceling so I was curious.

I don't know why but I missed you were using an external mic...whoops! So I see why it wouldn't pick-up a lot of the in-body noises like the SR.

I am unsticking this thread as the K-5 is old news. Long live the K-5, though I'd hoping to see a successor sooner rather than later!
