Perhaps the use of 'DC' whatever it really means will indicate a change in SDM design that results in increased reliability and faster focusing. We all know how many of the SDM lenses have been criticized for being too slow. Lets hope we a have faster product that the design can be copied to improve the other lenses in the stable.

DC means Deep Concentration! as all the other Canon and Nikon users gawk as you continue to take pictures in bad weather?

I was thinking the exact same thing. Is it a kind of system like the New Samsung I lens thingy.

And I suggested it a few pages ago as well. I don't think it will be at all like the iLens, as that is just a ring around the lens that lets users control camera settings. That's what the two control dials are for (plus its clear that there are only 2 rings on the lens; one for focus and one for zoom).

This is good news! I might buy it!

As I guessed correctly awhile back, Pentax has finally made the lens that I'm sure a large majority of new and old users will go out and buy. There are plenty of positive things going for this lens:

- the focal range is very versatile and would cover a wide range of subjects - perfect for a single lens walkabout or for travel, events, weddings, etc.
- caters to a large segment of new users who do not go beyond buying a kit lens and want a one lens solution
- competes with third party offerings in the same range
- caters to old and new shooters who are adverse to changing lenses
- finally a lens that can go out and win back would be buyers who gravitate to Canon and Nikon because these companies have wide range standard zooms in their lens line-up like the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

If the optical performance isn't half bad, I predict this lens will be a hot favorite. Long overdue imo.

My hope is that the DC moniker means the same thing as this phenomenal lens... Defocus Control!!!

And it's WR. If its performance is close to the 18-55mm kit lens, I'll buy one. It will be good enough for "non critical" photography. And its build quality should be a few steps above the "old" Tamron 18-250mm. Around 400$ could be a fair price.
