At least I'd like to hope so...

It really looks like a Nikkor design, they love putting those small focus rings near the body.

Direct Current?
District of Columbia?

In any event it's good Pentax now has something like this in their line-up, even if my personal interest is low. Bring on the next gen FA Limiteds next!

If this is indeed a Nikon design, then the DC might have something to do with the fact that the Nikon lens has 'Real anytime instant manual focus override.'

I'm hoping for 'Doesn't Clutch'... or some other 'SDM II' type hint.

I just got my 50-135mm back. Again. 4th time, warranty, thankfully.

This time the quick-shift clutch failed, and turning the focus ring didn't always result in a change in focus... it was 50% clutched, and kept slipping. Kinda funny that neither MF nor SDM would work, so by extention neither would screwdrive. It was just plain broke.

What happened no ring on lens? If other new Pentax lens with f2.8 without ring, what do you do? I need the ring on lens. Hhmmmm.

You guys get it all wrong! DC stands for Digital-Cropped (sensor) to differentiate from DF (Digital-Full) which is to come out later. Yay! :P

No, that's the equivalent of Quick Shift.

No, it isn't. With quick shift you can only override the AF system after it has focussed. With this you can override it even when it is focussing, or so I understand.

no one mention this... but i will say it....this lens design (and 18-55 WR and 50-200WR), is ugly.

Don't get me wrong, I owned a 50-200WR and is a great lens for the price, and thinking getting the 18-55WR (but now will get this instead). Still.... this lens design is ugly (2nd ugliest in pentax lens series, behind the F series).... IMO.

I agree, the WR lenses are not lookers (they look more like the cheap Canon muck). Price on this should be interesting. I expect it will probably end up similar to the DA17-70mm in price, perhaps even a little more.

I agree on the WR=ugly thing. The overall look of the first 18-55's is much nicer. The big, cheap writing on these ones makes them look, well, cheap! Not that it really matters too much.
