In this case, my blog knows better than the Pentax Rep

Their list price announced in the Photokina press pack (body only) is 1459,-€ (incl. 19% VAT) and according to the normal price policy, translates back to $1399,- in the States. But US hasn't worked on pricing yet. They are still caught by the D7000 shock which Pentax Germany cannot afford to be because the booth opposite to theirs is full of D7000 ...

As posted on my blog, a first German online store lists the K-5 at 1249,-€ and the D7000 at 1199,-€, just 50€ difference. When both cameras ship, I expect their price to become equal.
Yes I think the D7000 was a bit of a bombshell for Pentax, and they have not figured out how they should respond pricing wise-yet. Obviously, their hand was forced in Germany. Perhaps this is why Pentax Japan is so slow to list the K-5; they are still fretting over the pricing. Pentax USA may also be uncertain how to proceed, and the current suggested prices are "trial balloons" (note that the PentaxWebstore is selling the K-5 for $1599, although they always sell at somewhat inflated prices).

The D7000's price is surprisingly low for what it offers. I suspect Nikon is making a very much reduced markup on it, to force the other makers to cut into their profits as well. And it seems to be working so far with Pentax. Good for us, not so good for Pentax

1. [ANSWERED] confirm the Buffer Size and if its true it can only hold 8 RAW?

2. can you take a shot with both Lens Corrections settings on and see if it processes any faster? {than the K-7}

3. can we control when to light up the top LCD, and not have it light up automatically after every reading.

Falk, please let me add two questions to my list:

4. does the SR activate any faster when half-pressing the Shutter? Does the SR Hand Icon in the VF light up any quicker?

5. is there any visual feedback in the VF or top LCD to show the second tilt axis of the level meter or is it only shown in the rear LCD?

thank you.

GordonBGood says that 14 bit mode (only) plays a low-down trick with IQ of K-5 in some situations. Can you comment it?

Further confusion from Pentax.jp, which now has the K-5 page up (in Japanese): K-5?????????????PENTAX

Continuous shooting on the spec page in japanese is (1) up to 7.0fps for 30 JPEG, 8 RAW; (2) up to 1.6fps for unlimited JPEG, 10 RAW

On pentax.jp but on the english side (in the press release) it has the numbers we've seen before (2fps with 12 RAW)...

Falk, see what sleuthing you can do about the continuous shooting..... Jam a SD card in there and start firing if you have to

The only other thing of note that I immediately find is no mention of SXHC.
One thing I would consider definitive; the weight given, which is 660g body only 740g w/ card and battery.

Are you referring to this post by GordonBGood?
He doesn't call it a trick but points out that 14bit are overkill for capturing the dynamic range of the sensor (if identical to that of the SONY A55). If he's right, let's hope that there will be a 12bit mode or that software like LR will be able to convert to 12bit DNG.

I have a question about bracketing and MLU.
IIRC, you cannot use exposure bracketing and mirror lock-up at the same time. They are accessed through the same menu.
Now, if you can put bracketing on the RAW button, is it then possible?

the new k-5 has usb so you can hook it up to your computer and it will spend all day on the forums for you, instead of taking pictures :P

The 18-135, right?
Yes, please.

Sound (they say it's quiet - is it completely silent or merely not as loud as screwdrive? If not silent, what does it sound like? This may be hard to evaluate in the noisy environment there, though),

speed,

and feel of focus and zoom rings. And Check whether it really lacks screwdrive. I don't really care, but I haven't seen this incompatibility mentioned on the german website.

Thanks for being there, and have fun

(Oh, and please do pester them about video. It's really not a major thing from a development PoV, and they could probably still deliver it in a firmware upgrade)

Oh, one other thing - is playback magnification focus snap like on the K20D back, or is it still like in the K-7 (as I suspect)?
