I took that ISO 6400 jpeg and ran it through a single pass of NR. It looked clean as ISO 200 and the texture was even preserved on the paper and counter. It would have been much better if I had the RAW and took the color noise out in LR3. I would use this setting on a regular basis. Im very excited

That is what I suspected myself, my concern is now the 1600 bulb limit. That may likely be the deal breaker for me... That and forced NR

Just curious: What would you use high ISO bulb for? (On my K10D even ISO 200 quickly gets useless for super long exposures, so I try to use only ISO 100)

The D7000's price is surprisingly low for what it offers. I suspect Nikon is making a very much reduced markup on it, to force the other makers to cut into their profits as well. And it seems to be working so far with Pentax. Good for us, not so good for Pentax

Online shop at www.pentaxeros.com (Spain) has listed body only at 1199 Euros. It stated at 1310 but corrected this figure by indication of spanish importer Reflecta

I suspect that if the K5 had been announced before the D7000 price was known, it wouldn't have had ISO 51.2K. Marketing added it at the last minute so the spec sheet would look more competitive (to the clueless), thus the official video announcing a max 12.8K with that classy popup correction, and the lower figure appearing in many of the press sheets.

the engineer probably suggested it as a joke [or sarcastically] and the execs took them seriously.

Was this manually exposed? If so, what were you metering for? I'm trying to determine whether this was or wasn't overexposed, as that can affect results, either positively or negatively.

Exposure was 1/800s, F/8, ISO6400, which equates to 1/50s, F/8, ISO400. There was plenty of light. In these situations that high ISO performance is great on most cameras.

Yawn. Let's take away 8-10 stops and see how it does, not just in noise but also DR.

You should switch to LR3, much improved IQ (perhaps wait till they ironed out some more bugs).

The detail in that shot looks great and the noise control seems very impressive for ISO 6400. With some LR3 chroma and luminance NR applied, it looks very usable. When heavily pushed it seems like the green channel features some larger patterns but that might be due to the subject/lighting?

Did you change the WB settings?
If I leave WB at "As shot" then it looks different from your image.

The top left corner of the chart has a greenish tinge if I leave WB at "As shot" and reduce "Brightness" to "0" rather than the default "

EDIT: If I manually choose 2900K for the WB and set the tint to "0", I get the same colour balance as you do (in an exported JPG that is. Inside LR it looks slightly different. I guess this is due to the perceptual colour space mapping that occurs between ProPhoto RGB and sRGB).
