Jeezz, multiquoting more than 5 messages makes the first one get ignored

Congrats on getting this thread to be #4 on Google! If you'd like a homepage post about any news you might have, just PM me the text you'd like posted. Thanks for the info!
Adam,
you are right, except you missed 2 more things:
- The 645D launch in Europe
- The Pentax DA-1
I didn't hear people talk about other stuff and no signs of an EVIL or FF.
As for the homepage article. I find it a bit hard to compile a News article. After all, I have nothing to say which isn't already in the press material.
But if you have an idea how the material in this thread could be compiled into a frontpage article, I'll be all for it
Originally posted by apemen Thanks for also sharing the RAW file,
I tried some NR with Lightroom 3
first one is with default settings,
that is, 0 Luminance 25 Color NR ; second one is 64 for each
Thanks for the effort. But you know that it is totally useless if you don't provide full size files or 100% crops at least.
Originally posted by gazonk Just curious: What would you use high ISO bulb for? (On my K10D even ISO 200 quickly gets useless for super long exposures, so I try to use only ISO 100)
The High ISO bulb beyond ISO 1600 is a non issue, IMHO.
Yes, it IS a useful feature and it isn't to be missed. But it is easily emulated by a simple trick: Shoot RAW at ISO 1600, and boost exposure by +4 stops in the RAW converter. This gives you an effective ISO 25,600 in bulb without much negative effect because the readout noise on these newer Exmor sensors is so small. One must understand that increasing the ISO doesn't convince a single additional photon to enter the lens
Originally posted by edl Exposure was 1/800s, F/8, ISO6400, which equates to 1/50s, F/8, ISO400. There was plenty of light. In these situations that high ISO performance is great on most cameras.
Yawn. Let's take away 8-10 stops and see how it does, not just in noise but also DR.
I'm not part of the school who thinks that a short exposure time leads to less noise. And Everything below 1/180s is equal length as far as the sensor is concerned anyway. Moreover, the only variable influenced by the exposure time is the accumulated charge due to dark current. But it is so small it doesn't matter except for very long exposures.
Originally posted by Nubi Have you had a chance to play with 645D? Did you think that AF was as good as I thought it was going to be??? Just curious.
Yes, I played with it. AF felt "normal" which is a great thing for an MF camera. I would need a dark corner to do some more interesting experiments.
The most fun thing is the 645D's shutter sound. Almost sounds like a crossbow. Or at least like I imagine a crossbow would sound.
