woot, first to post of an inevitably massive thread

Overally at $1600 this camera is a joke to me since the D7000 announcement and the price I paid for the K-7.

I thought I might have trouble convincing myself to skip this gen. but at this point based off of the specs I have no desire for the camera. At 2x the price I paid for the K-7, better AF (could be marginal at best as far as we know), slightly more MP, faster fps, better movie mode, and stupidly high ISO do not appeal to me whatsoever.

I'll just have to see it in action I guess.... who knows it could have god-like IQ or something

The above is all in my oppinion....

Dpreview says: the camera looks the same and we haven't tested it out yet so we're not impressed. Ho hum.

I don't believe it will be sold for $1600. Looks like it has a new night HDR mode and a cross processing mode that the K-7 didn't have.

$1600 is the suggested retail price. I'm hoping the actual sales price will be lower.

It does not mention ISO80, the buffer size specification is different from PentaxForums' list, as is the lo Continuous drive mode spec (3.3 at DPR, 2.0 here).

Pentax seriously screwed up their communication.

I'm seeing a lot of different MSRP statements, some of which seem to make more sense than others. Falk Lumo who's actually at photokina has suggested something much lower. The drastic difference in European price vs. US price is a little odd as well. $1750 with 18-55mm kit lens vs. £1200 with 18-55mm kit lens? I get the impression someone at dpreview is putting it together as they go along.

Where do you guys from the US MSRP? DPR listed the following and it looks so reasonable to me: Recommended Retail Price:

* K-5 +18-55mm WR - £1199.99
* K-5 + 18-55mm WR + 50-200mm WR - £1299.99
* K-5 + 18-135mm WR - £1699.99

Either way, if it does come in at several hundred dollars more than the similar-specced D700 and 60D, the market should knock it down a few hundred dollars before too long. I'd rather have it than the D7000 or 60D, so that's what I'm hoping anyways.

It's listed both in DPR's hands-on preview and on the official announcement here, from Pentax's website.

It's not a huge upgrade from the K7, but a noticeable one. With expanded ISO to 51,200 noise levels at lower sensitivities are bound to be improved over the K7.

I think it's a worth camera if you're do for an upgrade, but that being said, I don't regret waiting for this instead of buying a K7.

Have you actually seen the AF video comparison?
It's not only a big upgrade in terms of systems, but the AF alone makes this a HUGE upgrade!
