Couldn't they hire that Shamwow guy?

After punching that hooker, he'd be pretty cheap and in need of the cash.

Yes, it is embarrassing to the point of being funny, especially when viewed against the Nikon D7000 promotional video:

I actually find it endearing, in a way...

HAHAHA!
He would make an excellent Pentax spokesperson.

First of all, who the hell are those 2? The girl is looking on the right all the time and is quite nervous.
Pentax marketing did really great on this one:"Hey, i guess we want young adults to buy this camera, let's use some dudes we already pay to keep costs down!"

The location for shooting is great, somehow looks like a 2/2 meters prison cell, great for suggesting what wonderful things you can do with this camera in all kind of locations except the one they are in.

And what they are saying...Jesus...i quote the dude "the camera is a lot faster than it used to be"...used to be when...last week? yesterday? will be faster two days from now then?

For me was like: "There's our new camera, if you did not realize it, is the black thing on the table. As you are a smart person, for sure you already guessed it has a body (the girl goes "yeah"), but what you maybe did not expected: there is stuff INSIDE THIS BODY (the girl goes "including a sensor, yeah").
One of the most important features is on the right side of the camera, where you can see a round shiny button. The amazing thing is that this button (i bet you did not expected that) can be pressed, but there's more to that! The camera takes a picture or more when you press it!"

I believe a movie with a pornstar saying that it love how the body feels and how thick the lens are would be more successful.

C'mon Pentax, show us the camera in a thunderstorm, rain, dust, mud, the camera has potential for the "wow" factor.

The guy in the Nikon video's voice is real annoying. At least our two spokespeople have him beat on that aspect.

+1
I too prefer our likeable Pentax people over this pitchman.

However, Nikon's barker doesn't detract from the fact that the Pentax video is rather embarrassing. He does a decent job but she looks at cue cards, is struggling with the terminology and is rather insecure about the whole situation. One feels she wants the whole thing to end rather sooner than later.

JC Pentax did a better job with the K20D presentation and the guy who presented the K-7 also made a better impression than the new pair. BTW, they weren't pulled in by surprise from the crowd, they (Carolyn Pitcavage - LinkedIn & Josh Neel - LinkedIn) work for Pentax.

This would have been fine as a home made enthusiast video; that fact that it is linked to from the official Pentax K-5 page... Unbelievable. Perhaps this a new kind of unprecedented marketing? They are likeable, after all, as uncomfortable as she appears to be in her role.

Good lord, this video is embarrassing.
What a drama.
If this is the level of quality one can expect from Pentax USA marketing, I doubt they will sell a lot of camera's....

By the way, I'd wager big money that they did not actually have a K-5 on hand; they had a K-7 standing in instead. Note that they kept the camera far away on the table, and they never brought it closer, held it, etc. (unlike the K-r video).

I think this could have been at least rehearsed. Watching her obviously reading a sheet while he answers is just silly. Also, her lines are spoken without any emotion at all. She says "yeah" a lot and they appears to talk over each other sometimes... like they have no timing in their lines.

We should expect mediocrity? No, we shouldn't. In fact when people watch this if they are shopping brands, might look at it as a completely amateur production and would doubt the company's actual professional standing. I let my friend watch that, and he is not in the market... he told me after that if he was a shopper he would move right along. I didn't even poison the waters either, I just let him watch it without my opinion.

They need to pull this video right away. Why can't they just do the ones like the K-x and the K-7? Sure they aren't flashy or anything, but its informative and professional like. Hell, these look just a little better than my old high school projects with a crappy VHS camcorder.

"Pentax has also introduced a fourteen bit raw................tell us...a little bit about that"
"I can shoot in HDR mode..... can you tell us what that stands for?"

I felt bad for her as she seemed pretty uncomfortable.

I think in the K-5's case, they should have done a bit of research on forums to see what features are most important to "pro-thusiasts" and focused on those features to talk about (not to mention specifically stating differences between the K-7 and K-5). They would also have been helped by using a video editor like Sony Vegas or something to put bullet points, detail shots, or whatever on the screen instead to avoid awkwardness.

Maybe they should have set something up with that director who made those nice K-7 short films?

Man, I can't believe the global Nikon offices cant even pronounce "Nikon" correctly.

Just to set the record straight, for those of you who aren't in Japan or don't speak Japanese, the correct pronunciation is "Nee-kon" rather than "Nai-kon"

Watch this old Japanese commercial and fast-forward to 1:19 where they say Nikon. Ironically, the bartender pronounces it wrong, too, so maybe it's ok after all! haha

Wow that video was funny. That Japanese guy in the ad is a big star in Japan, no wonder Nikon is doing well if they can spend that type of money. He does pronounce it "Nee-kon" as it should be in Japanese (as you said). The least he could do was turn off focus confirmation beep and stop kissing the flipping thing, it's so irritating!

Maybe Pentax should get back to their advertising roots:

They could just blast this on the radio and in stores:

I don't even know what to say about this one! :

Classical AF:

The bad girl of Pentax:

More take it anywhere ad with the same girl:

The last statement I think says something like: "from now on, this is the real thing":
