There has been a recent update from Photokina which states the K-5 will be $100.00 more than the D7000

So $100 gets you...

• Magnesium/steel alloy with steel sub-structure.
vs
• magnesium-alloy top and rear covers.

• Weather proofing, 77 seals throughout.
vs
• Light weather proofing with dust and moisture seals.

• Sensor-shift Shake Reduction Max 4 Stops.
vs
• Lens based SR system.

• AE bracketing 3 to 5 frames, 1/3 EV steps.
vs
• AE Bracketing 2 to 3 frames in 1/3 EV increments.

• Sensitivity up to ISO 51,200.
vs
• Sensitivity up to ISO 25600.

• Continuous 7FPS, up to 40 JPG, 15 RAW.
vs
• Continuous 6FPS, Buffer unknown.

• Quiet shutter technology.
vs
• Loud shutter technology.

Not to shabby

Isn't it actually $200 more? Worth it to me and about in line with what I expected.

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but you seem to be flying in the same wonderland along with Pentax marketing dep... Smoking the same grass perhaps?
Honestly, how do you even turn your DSLR on? Do you someone else read the manual to you?

I said a guy with a simple kit of a 16-45, 100 macro and 55-300 -

That means he has the kit already. Try and keep up OK? A guy with a simple kit already is going to be out a couple grand switching to Canikon. Even of you buy used, you will still be out a grand at least.

Anyway, you want to replace your KX and kit lens, then go buy the Nikon, have at it! The canon? Hey, great!

Save 500 bucks so you can spend 1000. Interesting logic. You must work on Wall Street. Lehman Brothers maybe? GM? Chrysler?

As for what kind of grass I'm smoking, I don't need to. Your logic is the biggest departure from reality I've seen in a long time. No grass can top this.

Actually I read the following from the blog:

QuoteQuote:
The price hints at a US list price of $1,399.- which is only $100 more than the D7000 and means that both cameras will have an equal street price.Let me repeat: The K-5 is not more expensive than the D7000!
No clue why he actually states a 100 dollar difference tbh.
Though I'd say I'm just as satisfied with that.

Oh, OK. I was just thinking $1399 street vs. $1199 street. Doesn't matter. $1400 was my "buy it now" price. Shame I won't be able to get it before I go on a trip in a couple of weeks.

What? Where did you see that? Amazon pre-order still lists $1599.

Ha! No, I'm saying that $1400 is my personal "buy it now" price. Besides, you're thinking of ebay. Didn't mean to get you excited.

That's good news. But based on the blog quote you added a few posts ago, is that that the actual MSRP is only $100 more, or the expected street price?

@JohnBee - In one of the press releases or early reviews, it was mentioned that there is a 2-shot HDR setting in the K-5. So that range would be 2-5 shots.

It all sounds plenty good to me.....I do wish we could get the price nailed down, that is going to be important to a lot of prospects. As compared tot the D7000, Pentax is the clear winner, but in these worldwide tough economic times, every dollar counts when making a purchase. Personally, the lack of SR would not make me want the Nikon at half the price......a price that would quickly exceed the Pentax with my first purchase or two of an OS lens. The Nikon falls short in other areas too, but that the lack of SR is a deal breaker for sure.
Regards!

The fat VR lens with narrow lens mount looks really odd to me compared to the K-mount lens. Even the DA* lens doesn't look that odd. Anyway, just a general comment; I guess a personal taste, may be.

Of coarse when you go to buy a prime the balance tips the other way. Just saying ...

Just say it once; "it is stupid to buy the K-5 at $1600". There not so hard. Now sit back and watch the price come down.

Thank you

In South Africa - Canon is the most cost affordable "system" - hands down

Canon is a huge market here - so many people downsizing, upgrading all the time.

One can already get a 7D for R 13 000

A keen amateur can pick up a 40D with lens for R 5000!

And there is a huge choice of glass available 2nd hand to

Pentax is a very expensive for an amateur to purchase and it's "system" just doesn't compete.
