Vietnam - Special Pre-order: 1570 USD for K-5 + 35/2.4 (10% VAT included) only few kits!

That's so good for replacing my K20D!

35/2.4 will be sold later about 220 USD! Not confirm on K-5 body only yet!

Update: K-r + kit 18-55 + 35/2.4 = 920$!

In the Netherlands the K-5 has an MRSP including 19% VAT with the DAL 18-55 (why not with the WR version is a mystery to me...) lens of €1499,-

The 18-135mm will be sold for €779,-

I sure hope that these prices will fall before Christmas, they seem a bit steep to me compared with the prices in Norway for instance.

As a comparison the prices of the two major competitors:

Nikon D7000:
- body: €1195,-
- body + 18-105 VR: €1299,-
- body + 16-85: €1599,-
- body + 18-200: €1699,-
- body + 18-105 + 70-300: 1699,-

Canon 7D:
- body: €1197,-
- body + EF18-135 IS: €1474
- body + EF18-85 IS: €1743

Pentax K-7:
- body: €818
- body + 18-55 WR: €925,-
- body + 18-55WR + 50-200WR: €1048,-
- body + 17-70 SDM: €1269,-

And you know that mean K-5 is actually from 1,330 to 1,350 (35/2.4 is around $220-240). I can not wait to be one of the 5 first orders in the end of Oct.

A dpreview member who goes by the name of hermanlee has just recently posted that the K-5 street price will actually be $1399 rather than the MSR $1600 quoted on dpreview and other sites.

See here: Falk Lumo: Photokina 2010: First impressions

Looks like bad news for the Pentax economic doomsday crew that's been so hard at work these past few...
How is this "Photokina confirms".

To me, "Some dpreview member said it was this" is categorized as "unconfirmed rumor". There is no other evidence, other than that street price is typically less than MSRP, to support this information.

We all knew street price would be lower than MSRP - however, originally MSRP and not street price was going to be $1399, indicating a street price of $1199-1299 or so.

I'ts still too much compared to what the 7D gives you. I am finding the 7D as low as 1339.00 new.
How low wll the K5 be in six months, a year? 999.00?
Do we really care about how much 7D or D7000 costs?

Seriously, on the first day of sales if the K5 is at $1599. look for a big announcement from Pentax that they sold 12 of them!

The Nikon will eat them alive, they are too similar and the Nikon name is too well known and trusted for new buyers to pay $400 more for a Pentax. Surely Hoya has more sense that what they have shown so far? You think?
Regards!

If I like D7000, I would have put in the order to purchase it anyway, why would I wait to see if K-5 is less or higher?

Even if K-5 is priced two hundred less than D7000, to those new comers buying a new advanced DSLR would have to say for a couple hundreds more, I rather stick with a well-known brand any way.... Do you think that would help Hoya if they lower the price? For those who have invested in Pentax system/lens, you can wait for the price drop, or you can move on.... it is the nature of the business. How many loyal users have left Pentax since the introduction of K-7? Sooner or later the market will determine its price support level.

Some (interim) Australian prices from Vanbar.com.au:

K-5: $1,379.40 body only
K-r $627.00 black body only

Nikon D7000: $1,799.00 body only

If these price differentials are maintained at release time, the K-5 will be a real winner here.

Rite - I'm fairly certain that the current pricing on B&H and Adorama isn't going to be the actual street price once the camera starts shipping. It's just a placeholder for now, and anyone who preorders at the placeholder prices is likely throwing away $100-200.

Simply put - right now, there is zero indication as to what actual street price is going to be, and B&H/Ado pricing these cameras at MSRP says one of two things:
1) Pentax is going to do strict MSRP enforcement that will kill them in the market at the current MSRP. We haven't seen evidence of this, only of doing strict MSRP enforcement on advertised prices. (which is why nearly all of Pentax's products right now have that "put in cart for the real price" blurbs at B&H, Adorama, and Amazon)
2) We're so early in the game that B&H and Ado don't even know what their costs (and hence profit margin at or below MSRP) are going to be.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing money by placing a preorder based on what the initial price is vs the "place holder price". If the initial price turns out to be less, the worst case is you'd have to call to get it adjusted(assuming the system doesn't automatically correct it). Plus it's very likely that the actual initial selling price will still be relased at least a couple days ahead of shipment date, so you'd likely have time to cancel your order if you change your mind based on the actual selling price.

FWIW, I have a preorder at Amazon for the K5 + kit lens for 1599 just in case I decide I really want the K5 right away

Exactly, they have no more clue than anyone in this thread what the USD pricing is going to be. If they did, there would also be a pre-order for the K5/18-135mm combo kit. The only reason they are listing them is to guage pre-orders at this point. They also don't want to list pre-orders for a price that is 'potentially' lower than the highest possible known MSRP because then they would lose money since they likely guarantee their pre-order pricing. Bottom line, it has been a week and is still completely, 100% up in the air.

If the K5 opens at 1399 USD then you guys are getting a pretty good deal compared to here in the UK where the current list (speculative) is 1129 UKP. Of course who knows what the price will really turn out to be, but either way the K5 sounds like an extremely good camera and it's unrealistic to think it will be sold inexpensively. The weather sealing must cost quite a bit for a start, and if Pentax made a bit more of this and perhaps other features then folks might understand better why it costs what it does (or will, I should say). I suspect chasing Nikon down the pricing ladder will be a mistake. Nikon will always win such a contest. I hope Pentax help us to help them by picking out a strong and simple marketing message with the K5 and not leaving it up to retailers here and there to explain why it's worth getting.
