Photokina confirms actuall K-5 price $1399USD

A dpreview member who goes by the name of hermanlee has just recently posted that the K-5 street price will actually be $1399 rather than the MSR $1600 quoted on dpreview and other sites.

See here: Falk Lumo: Photokina 2010: First impressions

Looks like bad news for the Pentax economic doomsday crew that's been so hard at work these past few...

No No No! I have a K-7 and I don't want to buy a K-5, It's not allowed to have a tempting price point!

I would even expect that to fall to $1300 very quickly.

Amazon preorder is currently at $1699 with the 18-55 and the same $1699 for body only. Sadly, I have already checked! My house closes in 10 days, so I am hoping preorder prices will go to $1399 by then and I can get my preorder in ;o) The hubby said yes as long as it is under $1500, so happy day for me!!!

Interesting. I looked just moments ago and it now is $1599. Maybe we all should just take a deep breath and relax (it's cocktail hour here) until the dust settles.

I was wondering about the Amazon pre-order process so I searched their help page. Here's what it says:

QuoteQuote:
Pre-Order Price Guarantee

Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.

If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you didn't use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact customer service through the Contact Us button on the right side of any Help page.
So it *seems* like you can actually pre-order now & get the better price if it comes down between now & the release date.

Electronics/DSLRs do not seem to be on that list. (darn) If I remember many of the photo equipment is from 3rd party folks as well...could be wrong.

I wondered about that. The K-5 page does state that it will ship through Amazon so if this price guarantee applies to electronics, then it would apply to the K-5.

I'ts still too much compared to what the 7D gives you. I am finding the 7D as low as 1339.00 new.
How low wll the K5 be in six months, a year? 999.00?

Hopefully now it'll look a little more attractive next to the D7000 for new buyers. When I buy one used in a year or so it should be low enough for me, regardless.
