To hell with the D7000. Not that I ever wanted one, but based from what I've seen so far the K-5 is a superb and fast picture taker. I want to stress that the AF in Live View on my K-7 is extremely, extremely slow and the CDAF in the K-5 seems to be at least on par or faster than the normal AF of my old *ist DS. Yes, I'm definitely sold!

That takes care of one of my earlier concerns regarding the AF ... Pleasant surprise!

I wonder if this will just as fast/faster using the regular TTL focusing?

For people who like to fiddle with AF point selection, this almost does seem like it might actually be faster (considering taking the time to select the point then AF and shoot). It is very quick!

I shoot a lot in dark interiors from a tripod, sometimes it's hard to use the viewfinder. If it can do this under those conditions I may be in real trouble with the wife!

I like the "auto-zoom" on AF point in LV. Looks like a neat feature when you want to check focus and maybe override with MF.

Agreed. I find MF with liveview quite easy to use with my Olympus e-pl1 - if they have implemented similar quick access to zoom focus in liveview, it will make MF downright easy.

I'll just sum this up with the following question:
Can your K-7 do this?

O M G

My K10D suddenly looks almost as old as my 1982 LX now.

...must resist CBA... my K10D still takes gorgeous pictures...

Anyone that thinks that these fast CDAF algorithms has its development cost shared with an upcoming MILC?

I seldom use LV with the K7 but I found that it is actually pretty accurate. This K5 LV-AF looks very much faster and accurate.
For outdoor use, for BIF and the like, it wouldn't really serve any purpose but I like the feature. Maybe I would use it more if I bought the K5.

Right, it's definitely an f/2.8 lens. But the AF noise leads me to believe this is not an SDM lens.

MILC stands for Mirrorless interchangable lens camera (like micro 4/3, sony nex, samsung nx).

Edit: I also like the way supernaut is thinking! Maybe Pentax will pull an apple/steve jobs 'we forgot to mention one other thing...'.

Or for a really decent P&S (in the LX5/G12 league)?
