Japanese prices are almost at the US level. E.g. 1572 USD at yodobashi.com after subtracting the 5% sales tax (but yodobashi gives you 10% of that back as bonus points). But the D7000 costs approximately the same as the K-5 in Japan.

Predetory retailers don't fall into the trap!!! Take a cold shower and order when the smoke has cleared.

this is a big deal. in the US at least, Pentax has always been a well-regarded perennial "bang for the buck" brand. even at their opening MSRPs, Pentax DSLRs had been competitive with their price peers. for the first time in recent history, they're not.

Jesus Christ, just wait until the camera is actually released.

It is easily competitive. Street price looks to amount to the same. And the K5 is a fully sealed camera. The D7000 doesn't have the built of the D300.

*ist D was also more expensive than the competition.

It also has perennially lost money with that approach.

Be that as it may, it's perhaps worth relaxing until the dust (and pricing) has settled on the K-5.

i wouldn't care so much if i wasn't interested. I had pre-ordered my K-7 the instant pre-order was available, feeling it was still worth the MSRP knowing full it would imminently go down. not so for the K-5. (which is already available for ORDER, not pre-order, on pentax's web store).

I think it might be the enforcement of that stupid "can only show MSRP" policy, i.e. click to see the real price. Since there won't be any click to see real price until the K-5 comes to market, MSRP will be what people see for the next month or so, and should do a good job killing any interest in the camera in the US.

Reaping what you sow comes to mind.

Thank you
Russell

apparently not with the K-x.

and again, to me the K-7 was competitive enough to justify its MSRP, didn't need any dust to settle for that camera.

Oddly enough, the pre-order price is $1599 in both the US and Canada. With the exchange rate, that means it's cheaper to pre-order from Canada... for once!
Ya looks about right.
But I won't by until price settle(no sense).
I have to K20's to replace and I've set my budget to match the cost of a single D700($2400CA). I suspect I'll be getting mine sometime in spring, which is right in line with my busy season.

Still no news for the Australian pricing, hmmmmm wonder how much they will (over)charge us this time. My bet is RPP$1899.00 for body only...

Pentax AUS website still lists K-m and K20D as current model and no sign or K-r or K-5....
