according to this it is:

smc PENTAX DA L 35mm F2.4 AL - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site

i think all it takes to be an L lens is the plastic mount.

The "L" is actually missing from the lens pictured though. However, L lenses have had a corresponding metal mount model with quick-shift and hood.

3 things jump out on the K-r relative to the K-x. The first is the af system. The second is the high res LCD. The last is the higher ISO range.

3 things prove to me this is a DA and not DA L lens:

1) The green stripe - don't DA L lenses have a grey stripe?

2) On the lens itself it says DA and not DA L

3) From the official (US) press release on pentaximaging.com: "PENTAX also announced the smc PENTAX DA 35mm F2.4 AL..."

I think only the title of the product page is wrong.

3 + 3 = 6:
  • Next to 4 AA battery also Li-Ion support (battery holder is optional, Li-Ion included)
  • Focus assist beam for low light within utilization of pop-up flash
  • Higher frames rate!!!
See here for overview:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-camera-articles/115464-pentax...-compared.html

Two (/three) drawbacks: Price and increase weight / size (larger LCD)
  • The effectiveness on the High ISO range is still to be proven, the K-x was already known & proven to be good.
  • On AF there was more room to improve...
  • The higher resolution LCD is welcome (inline with competition), but it also became bigger, making the body less compact... (besides price the only technical drawback of K-r compared to K-x.

Most important unanswered question (at least for me) is that if Pentax is going to bring this new 35 mm F2.4 lens as a kit lens with the K-r (and the K-r only). That would partly compensate for the higher price (although K-x is still going down in price even more...).

Does anyone know if the k-r has the same "slappy" shutter as the k-x?

Thanks as always,
Ray

I got the chance to attach it to my cam and I was pleasantly surprised.
Besided the overall plastic body it look OK and seems to work very well even wide open.
This is a testshot on the Photokina at F2.4

But have you ever seen a DA lens without quickshift , metal mount , and distance scale?
