hm
why? those cameras won't accept my lenses, nor do they effect the performance of any other camera.

if the K-5 can bring excellent results and it is the camera you are interested in why care what any other camera can produce?

Well, either those exposures are about a stop apart, or the K-5 has waaay more DR than K-7. The blacks and shadows looks fairly close, but the K-5 image has a lot more brightness to it. Chroma is very well controlled, and luminance noise is very good as well. And best of all, the K-5 seems to have drastically improved over the K-7 very very chunky black/shadow/midtone transition areas.

It appears they have done a good job with color and noise.

Also, if this is a true to life sample (which I assume it to be), then this means that 12,800 is more than likely completely usable. It looks like it has about a 2 stop advantage over K-7. That is about what I would expect to get out of iso1600 on K-7. Booyah, grandma.

Are those jpegs out of camera with exact same settings? Or raw with noise reduction?...

Wondering what the results would be like in RAW? Same or better?

Imazing ISO test. Base on this test, I think K-5's ISO 6400 is even better than K-7's ISO 1600.
But I am still waiting for the final product(firmware) test.
If this is good as well, I think K-5 should be the next choice.

Put me down as impressed. Definitely a couple stop improvement over K7 files. Particularly, considering that these are Jpegs, since the K7 jpeg engine really falls apart around iso 1600. I'm still waiting to see some real world textures -- people, hair, things that have a tendency to suffer at high iso, but it definitely looks promising.

This is very impressive indeed. I don't see how the 60D or D7000 could be much better than this. I would guess that they all are about the same. The luminance noise has a good look to it. Much more of a film like grain in my eyes than some older models. Also seems to be a lot of detail despite the high ISO. Looks like a win to me on ISO performance.

Unfortunately, the D7000 samples I've seen so far at 6400 look a lot better than the K-5:

D7000 high ISO samples

Everything looks great except the 25,600 on the Nikon looks rather noisy to me, so I highly doubt the K-5's will look much better. This would probably mean that 51,200 won't be very usable.

D7000 high ISO link more samples

D7000 @ 6400

D7000 @ 12,800

D7000 @ 25,600

And this flickr photo features an interesting comment:

D7000 at 12,800

Wow. AF would have to really stink in order for me to bypass the K-5...
