amazing results in dpreview's current "quick poll"

This isn't an attempt or encouragement to stack the poll for Pentax, by the way. Don't think that helps anyone. But the "quick poll" on dpreview.com right now asks "Update: NOW what's the most exciting Photokina product?". There's almost 25,000 votes, and the K-5 has 11% of them.

Several of the other entries — namely the Fujifilm X100 and Sigma SD1 — are genuinely exciting, while the Nikon D7000 is at least something new for that brand. It's not surprising to see the uninspiring Canon 60D get very little, and same with the sensible-evolutionary-step Panasonic DMC-GH2.

But given that the K-5 is also a sensible-evolutionary-step sort of model, it's very interesting to see it get so much attention. I mean, it's even almost beating "Nope, still nothing to excite me."

Lol, Pentax defeats the "Apathy" option yet again!

I wonder who is clicking on the K-5 except Pentax users? Maybe we'll get an influx from Olympus again

for me K-5 is OK... nothing that would make me go WOW, but that's maybe just because I've been waiting for FF....
But the Fuji X100 and Sigma SD1... well, those two have me on needles I have to say... the only problem with the Sigma is that I won't be able to get line up as good as FA ltds....

Ooops and I voted for the Fuji, but it was a really elegant product for a need I don't have.

I voted honestly and picked the X100.

I like the look of the K-5 and will be buying one on launch, but the X100 is way more exciting.

1. X100
2. K-5
3. D7000
4. SD1 (only this low because of the Sigma mount :|)

Well, almost defeats.

Me too, by the way. So pretty, and looks like great engineering — and with a viewfinder bringing the hybrid option we've been hoping for based on that old Pentax patent.

I agree with this 200%!!! The SD1 would be at the top of my list if it weren't for the worthless mount!

I voted for the Fuji X100 as well, but I have a need for it. Unless the competitors bring something similar by march/2011, I will get one.

I voted for the K-5, but I was tempted to vote for the Fuji. That appears to be a home run product for Fuji if it performs to the level of expectation.

If Sigma can work the bugs out of the Foveon sensor they will have a winner. Not because people will buy Sigma cameras, but because they can sell sensors to others. It is a technology that really needs to succeed.

+2...if they bring out lenses of the quality of the 50/1.4 but in wider focal lengths, then it will be a tempting package. Until then, the sensor cannot stand alone.

even the 50/1.4 doesn't keep it up... the oniony OOF highlights it produces are not something I could bear...30/1.4 has a good rep but is know for weak corners until stopped down. The 20/24/28 f1.8s are know to be very good, but are beasts of a lenses... 85/1.4 remains to be seen....
But, considering line up: SD1 + 10-20/4-5.6 + 24/1.4 + 50/1.4 + 8/1.4, the package is very tempting albeit HUGE comapred to the same(ish) SMC stuff....

The K-5 is a camera I will buy relatively soon, but the X100 is very exciting to me. A wonderful little machine (in theory) to do a simple job, for me that is to just be there and ready to shoot what is going on around me. Very much to capture the decisive moment. (what a terrible cliche )
