Well, this is obviously not true in general, my 2x Soligor converter from around 1980 can turn a limited lens into the equivalent of a coke bottle bottom. But...

For an 1.4x TC to make sense, the effective resolution of the lens+TC combo must outresolve the equivalent of an 8mp sensor when used with a lens that outresolves the 16mp sensor.

Are good TCs that good?
(I'm genuinely curious about the answer)
We weren't talking about Soligor TC from 1980, but DA* compatible ones matched to the DA* lenses similar to what Sigma has done for their top tele line.

Yes,

I have one 1.5 x from KENKO. It works well with my DA* 50-135 and my DA*300.
But sometims the motor just runs and finds no focus point.
(Unfortunately I don´t have the complete name right now: Should be st. like: PZ AF 1,5)

But this happens really seldom.

BEst regards
Georg

PS:
As for more news concerning new products: There are unfortunatelly no other news, or at least there is a heavy embargo on it!
But officilly there is nothing to mention, all else is reading coffe-grounds.

PPS: OT
Just saw: In the hardware section there is one to be sold by Tom. I bought mine with him too. Great seller and reliable!!!
For thet money it is worth the price !!!

The Tammies that do are out of Production. One model of the Kenko 1.5x does although there seems to be some copies that don't. There was a Promaster 1.7x. That is about it. These were acceptable but not what I would expect from Pentax. All of these seem to be out of production.

That's a shame.

Why a shame?

Pentax wants to earn money and there is not too much earned with that. My guess is, that they will still wait further, until the marked is deeply saturated with many sdm (or now DC) - lenses.

But surely they will offer st. like that in the future.

The problem is they are offering a great system with 2 major holes, which let it down from been a perfect Canon/Nikon alternative.

1. Flash system is sub-standard.
2. No T/C's (which other good systems have)

The rest of the system is excellent, cameras are well built, lenses are great quality etc.

Pentax's failure to release the TC promised two years ago at Photokina is a great mystery. It's understandable why they have failed to make good on their lens road map promise of a 400 f4 lens: that piece of glass would be by a wide margin their most expensive product, and Pentax seems uncomfortable selling anything for much more than $1,500. But a 1.4 TC shouldn't cost much more than $300 and would probably have sold better than either the 15 limited or the 60-250, the other products announced at Photokina 2008. So why did Pentax decide not to release their TC?

That's why I have stated that it was on the Road Map and they have working prototypes of a TC. 2 or 3 people here actually laid hands on it.

Are you sure about that? I've never seen a roadmap that showed a 400mm f4. All I've seen on the roadmap is a "Supertelephoto", with no details.
