Adam changed pentaxforums.com to have all external links point to . This is driving me nuts. It is unreliable, slow and compromises the privacy of my browsing habits.

Adam, please stop this.

Do you think if it's real to make such photos with K-5? K-5 has no 3D tracking mode.
Well, if the dog runs straight towards you, it shouldn't matter. However, I imagine how 3D tracking can help with BIF. OTOH, I know some BIF shooters stay on center AF point for ultimate performance. So, I don't know. One would have to post this question in a Nikon forum.

To make these dogpics, nobody needs Nikons 3D AF.
You need a good eye and a fast and save af.You can make these pictures with one AF point.
Yes, but good series of shots with running animals or flying birds couldn't be made without.

Hope the af points are more agressive than K-7.
I'm sure they'll bite the dog

Is your 80-200/2.8 the FA* (Pentax screw drive lens)? There are quite a few on sale right now. Would be interesting to compare with a DA*200/2.8 and Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM II.

No, just making the site even more commercial than it already is, despite the fact that many of his members donate.

tigeraction as in "Tiger runs straight towards you"? Maybe, I shouldn't be near you when you're doing wildlife photography

Yep, oct 15th (for the K-5 in Europe) is also what I was told by Pentax a few days ago.

K-5 and D7000 sensors

Sorry for posting it here. It's just the most convenient place for me

I looked up what product image Nikon shows for the D7000 sensor and compared with Pentax' image.

(above Nikon D7000)

(above Pentax K-5)

Maybe, the actual CMOS chip is the same. But bonding and packaging are different, with the K-5 version having the smaller package. Maybe, the SR made Pentax trying harder than Nikon ...

OTOH, we don't know if both images show the actual product

What are you talking about?

3D predictive tracking has everything to do with action photography.
I'm talking about the focus mode "3D-tracking", not the concept of predictive autofocus.

Really?

An invaluable feature for sports, action and wildlife photography, 3D focus tracking, available in select Nikon D-SLRs, automatically shifts the focus point to follow the movement of the subject. With the shutter release pressed halfway, you'll see in the viewfinder the lens continuously maintain focus as the subject moves.
Ok, apparently they are different between the D90 and higher cameras. I was quoting my experience with the D90. From the D90's manual:

QuoteQuote:
if user changes composition after focusing, camera uses 3D-tracking to select new focus point and keep focus locked on original subject while shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
When I used the D90, it did not work well with moving targets (as I had thought it would). Perhaps due to number of AF points and other differences, it was redefined as a re-compose mode for static objects.

Here's a discussion:
3D vs Dynamic Area [Page 1]: Nikon D90 - D40 / D5000 Forum: Digital Photography Review

Lastly, with the pitcher shot linked, it seems like more of a coincidence than the photographer selecting the ball as the AF point. Likely it focused on the pitcher, then started moving towards the batter and just happened to be a coincidence.

Does anybody have ideas how to seriously test the K-5 new AF system?

I thought of something like this:

D300/1D2 AF test - FM Forums

It looks like a serious test (where the D300 seemed to outperform some Canons). And delivers some stunning photos too.

Any idea how to standardize the setup? Are there any ISO dogs around?
Kittens. If the camera can AF on one of those while they are going nutz, that would be enough to impress me.
