in the german answer letter above Pentax states very clearly that neither the K5, Kr nor the 645D will support tetherring because it is not _realisable_per_design_ !
I'm curious as to exact what kind of problem they're referring to. There are several USB controllers costing less than $2 which should have more than enough resources to handle some form of tethering.

I don't really care about being able to make all kinds of tweaks from the pc (as long as the adjustment can be done on the camera), but I want to be able to trigger the camera from the pc, and have the image immediately downloaded. I might even accept having to write the software myself as this is the only thing keeping me from upgrading from my old K10D.

Why would I want to 'control my PC' with a camera ?
When i read the quote I thought the same thing...then I realized it was likely Japanese to German to English so I am more than a bit sure it was something to do "Lost in Translation" (har-har-funny!! )

Oh, just byte me already!! hahahaha...what we NEED is a set of HUD glasses so we can control everything as well as eliminate the need for a view finder or any LCD panels.

Oh for anyone who didn't see the joke, HUD = Heads Up Display and there really are HUD goggles out there but, ummm...they, let's say, aren't cheap and likely you would need to buy from Haliburton...and we all know how well that works out as a rule.

EDIT: Oh dear gawds!! It's even worse than Haliburton!! We would need to deal with...I am gagging just typing this....aPpLe:

This goes along with tethered shooting, but its a configuration issue.
  • It would be nice to be able to down load the bodies configuration via USB to a PC (and then be able to reload it via the USB also). I had a repair on my body that required a new circuit board, so I wound up loosing the configuration I had settled into over the last 18 months. And No, I did not copy it down - I should have, but I didn't
  • An extension of the above idea is to have a small program that would let you set everything on the PC - i.e., build the configuration and then upload it.
