Nikkei rankings of "beginner" cameras in Japan

My wife spotted a new ranking of "beginner" cameras in Japan in the Nikkei newspaper today. It's a top-ten list compiled via a points system based on a survey of various industry players including buyers at the big electronics shops, reviewers for photo & PC mags, editors of the same mags, etc. To qualify, a camera had to be:
+ available on the Japanese market Oct 1 2010
+ "easy to use" and "compact"
+ something that would be considered by someone upgrading from a p&s

A scan of the article should be attached to this post.

Note the last page of the PDF, which has the same listings from three years ago.

if K-r is available at the time deadline, it would probably take over the #1 spot, I think

If I read it correctly the K-x is the cheapest one there by 10000 Yen or about $100

I was surprised by how prominent Olympus cameras were in this list.

Olympus surprised me a bit, too. Both today and in the "three year ago" list. Also that the K10D qualified as a beginner's camera at the time.

One thing that's surprised me here in Japan is how well the Kx has done with people who have kids.

I wonder why the Samsung NX cameras didn't make the list?

Thank you

I thought the list about ranking what is the best product for the application, people moving up from a P&S, not by what has the most sales? I also think none of the features that make a camera good for someone moving up from a P&S has anything to do with the country of origin. If you are right, the list posted seems to be only good for lining the bird cage or training the puppy,

Thank you
Russell

It's worth noting that nothing appears in the Japanese press without someone footing the bill. Or so I was assured by my media contacts here when I was exploring PR for our business.

I think in the U.S. they are over priced. Plus, how long will that mount be around etc.
