Kr is available in France from today (phox Poitier and missnumerique.com at least). Price 599 euros body only; In stock, post tomorrow for an order today; anyway I wait the K5.
This time france has been very well served - may be cause Pentax is very polular here

My local shop (Camera Company in Madison Wisconsin USA) rpts that they just got the K-r in. If you like black. Other colors are available but only as special order. Didn't ask the price - they almost always get full MSRP/RPP unless it's a manufacturer-sponsored sale.

I may have to look at it owing to a very unfortunate event today related to cameras flying through the air. Without guidance. Ballistic trajectory. More on that in another post.

Have we had any indication as to whether or not Amazon will be lowering their prices on either the K-r of K-5? If no, they are severly disappointing. Especially the K-r. The K-5 price is somewhat justified, but I cannot see the K-r being purchased for $800. It's just too high, especially with the Kx going for ~$500, a much better price. And you can get a K-7 for only $100 more, which is a lot more camera for not much more money.. And it's silly that it only cost $30 more for a super nice kit lens for $830, seems like body only wouldn't sell much. Hopefully these prices go down.

from the looks of it, the k5 will be MSRP'd at $1599.
no sign of that dropping anytime soon at least here in the US.
that's waayy too much for me.

maybe hoya is trying to gauge what the reception will be at that price and if it's good, stick with it. why not?

well, sorry, my $$ will go elsewhere.

I think even if they do run with that MSRP, it won't be there long. If I recall correctly, MSRP on the top of the lines have been K10 - $999, k20 - $1299 and K7 - 1399 (body only). We all know those prices don't last long to begin with. Given all the negative discussion I think it will make the initial $100-200 discounts show up even quicker. At least, I will keep telling myself that because I want the camera for our 2 week trip to Italy over the holidays!

The prices will last as long as the cameras move at those prices.

When the demand runs out at the introductory MSRP, the street prices (and perhaps MSRP) will begin to drop as Pentax and the retailers seek the next tranche of customers.

Nothing new. Supply and demand. Econ 101. This is probably post number 2,937 with this observation. Not sure why .....

I wouldn't expect prices to fall too much before Christmas. The K-r and K-5 will be on a lot of lists and there is always a group of people willing to pay more to be one of the first.

Personally, I will wait until the 1st or 2nd firmware release. K-5 will have to compete with the rest and its price will move into line.

I doubt there will be many K-x users upgrading for the current price. Those thinking of buying the K-r will be tempted by the very appealing K-x prices. Maybe there won't be a very high demand for the K-r after all.

I have bought the battery grip and extra batteries for the K-5, but waiting for the price to come down on K-5, $1599 is $200-$300 to much.

Looking at K-r also, but price must drop. I have a K-x and that is a great little camera, if K-r price does not drop, another K-x may be on my list.

i guess it all just depends on how the Kr and k5 will sell during the 1st month or so of release.

i've a kx and while the kr looks nice, at $800, it's way too high.
the k5 is what i'm looking at but again at $1600, it's way too high.

my other choice is the D7k which is $400 less than the current k5. that $400 could get a decent lens.

price wise, historically, pentax prices will drop faster than nikons, so paying $1200 for the D7k won't hurt so much.

only problem is my k-mount lenses won't work

Those are the MSRP that are showing up at BH and Adorama because they don't have them in stock yet. The street prices will possibly start at ~ 15% below that.
