By not even answering my question I can assume that you don't have a clue.

And yes I use 2x360 + 2x540 in a wireless setup. Works consistently well, is easy to use, and gives good, clean light.

Try it some time.

Uh ... it wasn't ME you asked the question to.

Mine was very simple. Why are you so much on the defensive?

And BTW, with at least $900 tied up in flashes, you'd BETTER be getting FANTASTIC results! (And you talk about NOT having a clue.)

About the price: I am a moderator of the italian pentaxiani.it forum. So far, no K-5 has arrived in italy. But one of our members lives on the Cote d'Azur in France, near the italian border, and has just bought the K-5 in Nice, France. It was priced 989€ body only. It seems very competitive.

Exactly how is the Pentax wireless system not competitive with CaNikon? Have you even tried a 4-flash wireless set up with af540Fgz/af360Fgz and compared them with what Canon/Nikon can do?

(Let's not go into CLS - it's pretty gimmicky).
Have I tried controlling multiple Pentax flashes in a studio shoot ? Umm...yes...with difficulty....
Friends with Nikon and Canon systems have shown me how they do it as well.

I'm sure you could get great results from the Pentax flashes if you were really good at it, but I'm not a studio flash specialist. I was looking for ease of use, a non-specialist being able to get reasonable results...

Look, I'm not here to make disparaging remarks about Pentax gear.
I have 2 Pentax bodies, an AF540 and an AF360 (sometimes used as a slave flash). and I have a K-5 on order,

Pentax is superb for my photography interests, but I'm also realistic about a few areas Pentax isn't quite there yet.

989 euros = $1,374.2155 US dollars

THAT is much better than the $1,599 in the United States.

Pentax has already realized the pricing error and is now offering a $100 mail in rebate.

They shot themselves in the foot in the US on this one, IMO.

What they should have done was start it at a BODY price of $1,199, which is the same price as their closest (KNOCKOUT) competitor, the Nikon D7000.

pentax k-5

The D7000, with 18-105mm zoom lens is $1,499
Body only, $1,199

nikon d7000

We're in the same boat. Except I don't have the AF360, or I haven't ordered a K5 yet.

The K5 needs to be able to stand on it's own two feet. The K10D literally saved the camera division of Pentax back when it was released.

The K5 won't make near the market impact the K10D did.

Sorry, my sincere apologies. I thout that the person I asked the the original question to, asked with your question.

I was on the defensive as I just had a great shoot with my wireless setup, for both low and high key and everything worked seamlessly, as usual, whether it was wireless HSS or P-TTL.

From the studio I then used one of my af540's with the TR3 battery pack (and 6x 4500mAh hybrids) for fast paced candids. Flawless yet again.

So I really don't get where people see that the flash system is deficient. Am I missing something?

No problemO, Bro!

As for the AF540/360 pentax flashes - THEY ARE GREAT IN WIRELESS! The AF540 was one of the key factors that caused me to go DSLR, back when the K10D was first introduced. It also works flawlessly with the K-x.

Peace

That rebate is only stage 2 of a marketing intro strategy, a quite predictable sweetener/enticer at appropriate time and duration contrived to lure the silly season when cashed-up and impulsive xmas buyers come out mainly, as well as progressively, a few more recalcitrant early adopters.

They didn't shoot themselves in any foot at all. They, Hoya, know exactly what they're doing here, as does Nikon.
And each will achieve their respective goals for balance sheets. Neither you, I, or any other forum poster need tell them how to run their multi-billion$ global corporations.

Comparing the European market with the Nth American market at this selected-consumer-item level is always foolish too.

And quoting a current day dislocated currency exchange rates comparison in support of inter and intranational market product costings inequity argument at this point in the Great Global Fiscal Turmoil Sham can only be called callow and flippant.

Just don't submit those lines in any business economics class test or you'd get a nice fat F for sure.
For one, Hoya clearly have different penetration, strategies, and long term plans for each. As are the chalk & cheese economics factors of each.

And it's in that respect that they also have crystal balls, that you don't. Which takes us right back to the matter of why they run multi-bn$ corps, and you don't.

So sit back Grasshopper, smell the roses, and watch it all pan out... as it will.

I guess you missed all of the Pentax users posts about wishing for full manual control over video in the K-7 etc.

North Korea's Military parade in Slow Motion shot with the 60D:
==============================

The angles of that video were taken with either laying the 60D on the ground or looking down into the angled video screen at waist level. Not possible with either the 7D or K5

I think you're dead wrong on this. My local agent can't even get enough camera bodies to sell and people have to wait for later shipments.
Plus we're seeing people using other brands now buying the K-5. Maybe you should consider buying one yourself.

+1 Denis, I am thinking the same... K-5 is catching the wave in the Asia although most people in NA don't really see that. It will take time though for people to catch on. The down side for us waiting for the lower price point to get in may have to wait a long time.

Pentax clearly missed the boat on the K5 pricing. By the time it corrects this, Nikon and Canon will have eaten their lunch.

We won't know the answer to this for a few more weeks. The initial shipment quantities were very LOW. I don't think you will argue that.

And I am going to get one. But NOT at $1,599 for just the body.

Pentax K-5 Digital SLR Camera Body (Black) 14748 B&H Photo Video

It is an insane price.
