My prediction for this lens?

1. Plenty of pincushion distortion between 35mm and 135mm.
2. Average resolution throughout the range, but especially bad at 70mm and up.
3. Moderate to high CAs.
4. Average fall-off.
5. Slow autofocus.
Based on what? Your crappy imagination? Please wait for an actual test before making unfounded speculation...

There were a couple test photos floating around apparently taken with the 18-135 at Photokina. Though there weren't very many to examine, it definitely did look very sharp at 135mm, and didn't appear to have any major problems along the edge of the frame. Hopefully further tests confirm this.

I'm also pleased to see just how small this lens is. Going by the official specs, fully retracted, it's barely larger than the 18-55 (3 inches long vs 2.7 inches), though a fair bit heavier, and presumably the barrel extends more in zooming.

Here's one shot at 135mm by Moritz Schwertner that was shared on RiceHigh's blog a couple weeks ago. Hope he doesn't mind my reposting it.

Hmmm, looks promising... 135mm wide open and sharp. Exif says sharpening was set to "Hard", but still, looking good.

For what I saw at Photokina (which are just impressions, couldn't do full test obviously) the 18-135 seems a nice lens. There was no obvious distortion/vigneting when zooming from 18 to 135mm.
Usually it is very obvious with such type of lenses so I have good hopes. It doesn't mean it is sharp though.

November 26th??? I forsee 645D scenario....
And I ordered K-5 with kit so I guess I will have to wait.. and wait.... and...
Or is nov 26th the 18-135 solo lens appearance date???

It was said that the 18-135 would be released as a kit first, but then again, I think the K-5 + 18-135 was to be released also before K-5 body only.

I think we will see the kits and the separate lens at once, hopefully it will be widely available at christmas, so I can purchase one!

I, as one who ordered the kit, do not like to wait until there are sufficient copies to be sold separately at the same time..

The thing about a super zoom is that combined with the high iso capability of the K5, it suddenly becomes a much better option, even in in doors settings. I am sure it will need to be stopped down a little to achieve best sharpness, but still, looks like a winner...

That is sad news, add two weeks for availability in NL/BE, then add poor deliveries in december and I guess I won't see my combo till mid january.... At the soonest...
