Maybe the size of the booth was because of the compactness of the cameras? :P

I don't know. I never walked by the Pentax booth without it being surrounded by people. The 645D in particular was getting alot of attention.
I agree, it was busy most of the time, but there were at least 6 Pentax staff attending to visitors so it was easy to talk to them. The 645D was clearly the crowd's favourite camera

You can find a synopsis of my conversations with Ned and the rest of the gang here.

Nice interview with Ned and others, Misere. I was interested to hear Ned's comments about how they feel the K-5 is superior to the 7D and Nikon D7000. Them's fighting words! Also that the buffer limitation was a mistake by a Pentax engineer, I bet that guy got a stern talking to

And as for your mirror less camera wishes, I bet Pentax will enter the MILC market one of these days. My only worry is they come too late to the party.

Everyone will enter the mirrorless market eventually; they'll have no option.

As for timing, there is still a window of opportunity, but it's closing fast. This is the MILC that will take the lion's share of the market when somebody finally manufactures it:

  • APS-C sensor with equal performance to its DSLR brethren.
  • Mount large enough to accommodate adapters for Leica M and LTM lenses.
  • High-quality incorporated EVF.
  • Thin profile camera body like the Samsung NX10.
  • Plenty of direct-access buttons and dials.
  • Aimed at the advanced photographer.
  • A complete line of small, fastish primes would be available within 12 months.
This camera does not exist yet. It's possible that Sony's NEX7 will be some of this, but Sony's lenses are still quite large. Pentax have an opportunity here, but I don't know that they're financially strong enough to take it.
