Why do they use FA50/1.4 at F9?
Perhaps this will help shed some light on the subject:

All K-5's photos are out of focus (except ISO1600 and 3200).

I am not sure about out of focus, but it looks quite soft, I agree.

What I find interesting is how different the histograms of the K5 and the 60D look. The 60D is also overall a bit lighter.

I asked a question in the 'Open Talk' section of the DPReview forums about why they using the FA 50mm 1:1.4 instead of the DA* 55 1:1.4 for example:

Disregarding that the Pentax shots seem slightly OOF for some ISOs, IMHO the K-5 seems to have the best RAW files here. The 60D is very good, though.

I did right now
See the results:

This is from the JPEG version

This is from the PEF RAW version.

I use the newest BETA version of Photome.
It seems that Photome doesn't support the PEF file to the full extend in the earlier versions, and also not yet in this BETA not with all parameters(like Lens name).

But this all doesn't mean that DPReview needs to 'review' their own testing procedures and maybe retest it with a better lens like the DA* 55 1:1.4 or the DFA 50 1:2.8 Macro for example.
Just like I asked them in Lens used with Pentax dSLR reviews: Open Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

DPR always tests with default values which means they didn't touch RAW NR settings.
Stupid enough but then this is DPR...

If they want to test the body they should use a third party lens that is available across all bodies like sigma. Even if it is not going to be the most commonly used lens for someone buying into that system, it is a more controlled experiment.

I think it is pretty clear that a controlled experiment is not their goal though.

Even before reading this thread I looked at the DPR comparison images and though "WTF with the lens? It's obviously out of focus everywhere and fringing like hell".
