It is quite funny that the K-7 got a higher "build quality" rating... I think that slipped by the reviewers doing the scoring.

Otherwise, never thought I'd see the day. I'd honestly thought DPR was hopelessly bias against lowly'ol Pentax to ever give them a fair shake. I'm happy to say I stand corrected!

I actually wanted DP to give the K-5 a lower rating than the d7000 so the price would dump a bit faster.

The only cons are for the video mode so it seems a fair review from DPR.

Perhaps some refurbs from the "stained sensor" debacle?

I'm very pleased that DPR not only gave the K5 a Gold rating, but classified it up in the Semi Pro level as well. This review only confirms why we are seeing so many full frame photographers buying the K5 (Read what they are saying about this camera in the K5 forum) It has extreme image quality coupled with a small size, great ergonomics and weather capabilities.

Now what we need is Pentax to start bringing out some more glass (see todays news on the home page of this site) , upgrade the Flash system and improve the video issues identified in the DPR review and the Pentax system will be on the leading edge in all categories.

HA! Not likely any time soon. I doubt that they will water down new sales with refurbs so early on, but you may find an "open box" deal.

Did they test it before the firmware upgrade came out? Just wondering, because their buffer filled a lot faster than what has been reported on the forum since the new firmware. They report their buffer filling with only 9 RAW files, but my understanding is that that is fixed to go up to 24-ish -- a huge difference from the D7000.

That's poor.

I guess they couldn't admit what the K-5 is really capable of in terms of buffer size, and admit that it has better build quality than the Nikon D7000, and use the price that they are advertising below their review.

The distance to the Nikon D7000 would have been too big.

BTW, are they implying that Nikon is lying about "their own sensor technology" when they say that the K-5 and the Nikon D7000 are using a very similar sensor?

RAW (DNG): 6.3 - 7 fps for 9 frames, then 1.2fps. Approx 10 seconds to recover.
Why didn't they use 1.01 firmware - 20-25 RAW buffer?

Perhaps they'd already done the review before 1.01 was released?

The firmware up date was released on 11/17/2010. Should have been available, if they had taken the time to download it. DPR tends to shoot with cameras as they come and in particular, hates to adjust jpeg settings.
