What is interesting in it when you r not saying anything besides NDA. NDA, NDA, NDA...?!
Haha...
What is said is not as interresting as what is not said.
Pentax has major news to be revealed in January, this is what this thread is about. What those news are, is NDA and this has been said several times.

First people complain about not hearing anything, and planning to "jump ship" and lots of things about that, then when we have information that we will get the full story in January, then we get messages about "if you can't tell the whole story, then tell nothing at all!".

Please folk, calm down.
I thank Benjamin for letting us know that Pentax has big things going on behind the curtain that will be lifted in Janury.
We just have to patient, but now we have an indication of how long to wait. Isn't this positive?
Isn't it positive to know that Hoya has not sold Pentax yet, that Hoya has not throwed Pentax R&D into the sea, obviously are not planning to kill Pentax Imaging Business in the near future, that Pentax still are working on new bodies and lenses, are still going for worldwide domination, and that Hoya is backing up Pentax? Now, I see this as fantastic and indeed *interresting* news.
Let us rejoice. The King is dead, long live the King.

Agreed, the interesting part of this news is that we know Pentax is working on new bodies.

I wish they had a body roadmap...nay..just an official confirming statement that the new k10d and the model above it will be aps-c. especially the model above.

"Pentax... are still going for worldwide domination"

Oooh, perhaps we should get Dr. Evil to join up with Pentax for worldwide domination. It's right up his alley.

Maybe they already have 1 Lex Luthor on their side.

No offense Benjikan, but it was so easy....

***Why don't they (anyone, anyone at all) just provide us with a sensor that ir replaceable by the camera body owner? Makes bout as much sense as any of the remarks made in this bit of the forum. I think that there was a Three Stoges comedy segment in which those three characters were using cameras. We ought to find that and run it on this forum.....FLASH

Because the sensor is closely tied with the image processing engine and other electronics -- not to mention shake reduction and any dust-removal system. All of that together is by far the bulk of the cost of the body. Add to that the cost (in both direct extra money and in size and in engineering constraints) of making a modular sensor system, and you're back up to the cost of a whole new body, without actually getting one.

You know, someone really ought to come up with full frame sensors that are interchangeable, and even better, each with a single ISO setting. Maybe you could put a light-sensitive emulsion over some kind of thin plastic, and sell it in rolls so you wouldn't have to deal with memory cards.

That would sell like hotcakes.

They do - digital backs for 4x5 and Hasselblads - anywhere from 4,000 - 23,000 USD.
Digital Scanning Backs for Large Format Photography check out the super 10K-HS "Native maximum resolution at 100% = 10200 x 13600 pixels. Maximum file size at 100% = 397 MB in 24-bit RGB (794 MB 48-bit). Price: $22,995"
Also check out Phase One - Digital camera back
They also make digital backs for MF cameras (but not the Pentax 645)

What specific day we're talking about?
January 31st would be 104 days or nearly 2500 hours from now.
For us European people a US-based anouncement could mean that it's already February here

(I'm just kidding! (am I?))

PMA 2008 is Thursday, Jan. 31 through Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008.
Announcements should be made before the show, but because it starts jan 31, I dont really expect anything before jan 15 at the earlierst, prolly in the last week before the show...
