"These men (and they are all men) have no interest in art or photography because they have no souls. Lacking souls they cannot express imagination or feeling, which is why their images, if they ever bother to make any, suck."

"Almost anyone who actually worries about the level they occupy belong to the bottom. Many of these folks stalk the Internet, and spend hours getting off "contributing" to technical websites and photography chat rooms like Photo.net, Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ and photocritique.net instead of making photos."

Well, I think both of the above applies to me very well. Actually, most of the words in all paragraphs about the bottom level of measurbators fit in my own personality 101%!
So umm.. basicly you state that your an idiot because Ken Rockwell said that measurebators are idiots.. and you are happy about being an idiot too?

Some people... Let me quote some more Ken Rockwell:

QuoteQuote:
Do not under any circumstances deal with these people, talk to them, read their websites or especially ask them for photography advice. To the innocent they seem like founts of knowledge, however their sick, lifeless souls would love to drag you into their own personal Hells and have your spirit forever mired in worrying about how sharp your lens is. If you start worrying about this and you'll never photograph anything again except brick walls and test charts.

These people are easy to identify. If you've read this far you've probably seen their websites. They always have lots of info about equipment, but very few real photographs. Beware of any information from any website not loaded with photography you admire.
Nuff said!

Actually, can a moderator please moderate threads like these that are basicly people biting the flamebait RH throws out?
Ofcourse, if you think that I'm being way too aggressive against the poor RH, please let me know and from now on I won't respond to RH's flamebait's anymore since that's what we should all do as I stated in the beginning of this thread.

True. Actually, the linked Ken Rockwell animal picture looks nice to me, indeed.

Just 'cause that some guy happens to be a professional doesn't mean that he's automatically an authority on everything related to the craft, although obviously it's helpful to know someone's background when evaluating what they say.
Well said.

Furthermore, I often found people tend to mix fields for what a professional is specialised in, or just forget about what is the profession of the pro person. A pro photographer actually has no authority when he talks about the engineering aspects of the *craft*, but an engineer does. Reversely, an engineer who has no knowledge in photography can talk nothing about how he can use the craft to take photos, just because he don't know how to take photos, even though he may be a true specialist of CCD or CMOS circuitries and signalling, for example.

Even worse, a "pro" photographer has a board meaning again as the fields they are specialised in can be very different and the techniques and knowledge required (and type of equipment required as well) can be very different. What do you think about the differences between a studio photographer (for advertisement etc.), a nature photographer (those National Geographic, e.g.), a photo journalist for daily news, or a sport photographer and so on?

I'd seen Ken Rockwell's stuff before but hadn't really paid too much attention to him. What I didnt know until looking at his current site was that he was a rich lefty with boatloads of money. Check out that custom made left-handed camera he is using with that big ole lens. Heck, maybe he's switching to Pentax and thats an advance copy of the K20DL (for leftys). Measurebate that Ricey old boy...

Oh... never mind, just a horizontal flip

New Pentax Body ??

I almost dread posting this but I've seen a few posters lately considering another brand mostly due to the Fps and a few other reasons. I know the Pentax rep in the East coast fairly well. We worked together for 8 years and I helped him along the road to becoming a rep. Well we got to talking today and I asked about the possibility of an new body in the line. Nothing was confirmed and he was incredibly vague. They want to save it all for a soon to be announced press release. So at the fear of starting yet another rumour mill....

Q: Are they going to announce a new body?
A: Yes

Q: When?
A: Very, very soon.

Q: Features and advancements?
A: can't say

Q: 5 Fps?
A: a wink, smile and nod

Q: Sensor?
A: 12 mp

Q: Live view?
A: That would be nice on a new body another wink and nod

I asked several other questions of course but he kept changing the subject. Take it for what it's worth but the model number that slipped was the K1.

Now that being said I would think that any new body is going to be many months down the road before it hits the shelves. The K10D is still the best bang for the buck and it would seem they aren't waiting for the new Canon 40D to take anything away from the momentum. Even with that news/rumour I got a second K10D today myself.

Ah... yes. It good to have worked with Pentax personnel so closely over the last 30 years. My info is that it will be sooner... rather than later... and have more important bells and whistles than quoted so far. Hmmm...

Faster AF and frame rate would be very nice.

EDIT: So then, is this the calm before the storm? Will the 23rd bring new life to the huddled masses of Pentaxians? Whatever...

Interesting. Good news for those who want a more advanced body than the K10D but this new body will not be for me. The K10D is all I need and I hope to not upgrade until 2010 bar a malfunction/accident on the cameras part (God forbid!).

Sounds nice though - 12MP, 5fps at least, live view. Should be a good contender if the price is right.

Though not really interested in live view, an upgrade sounds great. The rumour says the sensor to be 1.3 crop factor sensor - this will sound great too but not too keen on having more pixels. It is just logically impossible to pack more pixels in the same small sensor not resulting in high noise in the images.

I thought k5d was in the pipeline before the release of k1d ...

06-05-2007 prediction thread

Ben started a thread on 06-05-2007 asking what we thought the next body would be. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/7973-when-there-k-...will-like.html
Aug23 might tell us who got the closest.

Regards,

Ken

That's great news for those already using a K10. For me however, I actually need a lighter body than my DS due to some physical issues. I'm hoping for a mid level between the K100super and the K10, maybe with 8 mp and a better buffer capacity.

The actual model names has never been made official, the K1D and the K5D may be the very same camera. The model names are just rumours and guessing.
We don't know yet.

K1D - K10D - K100D, well why not?
And K10D replacement to be called K20D, and K100D replacement (the new "mid model" between K10D and K100D) to be called K200D.
And future K1D replacement to be called K2D.

This would be in-line with the model names for the Optio series.
A10 - M10 - E10
A20 - M20 - E20
And so on...

So what is the name flagship going to be called if it is not K1D? K0D?
I don't know. Perhaps a totally new name.
K X? K Z ? Or simply K Pro?

This was of course a posting without any meaning or substance at all, but quite fun nevertheless.

Take care

Sure... rumours of a new body 2 hours after I order my K10D.

That's what I'm learned about this industry - buy what you need (or want) and then stop looking. LBA is just too hard on the pocketbook.
