i dont see why people think an AF motor in an adapter for a mirrorless camera is some kind of insurmountable engineering feat. samsung squeezes lens motors into their tiny nx pancake lens. And have you seen the size of the sony amount to nex adapter?

there is plenty of room in that for a lens motor, and I imagine a pentax mirrolress adapter would have a similar sized adapter. lens motors are not that large.

I don't think this is what people think.

An AF screw drive motor with controller is an easy thing to do indeed. But it's not where to start if you want to market an affordable adapter not consuming internal resources from R&D. A version 2 adapter is likely if the mirrorless camera succeeds.

Economically, the screw drive AF adapter only makes sense for the DA limiteds. The big DA* lenses are all SDM. But maybe, Pentax plans to release mirrorless versions of the DA Limiteds as they could be made smaller, esp. below 40mm.

NC-1 = Nikon Canon minus 1 =)

Seriously, Pentax is innovation. Probably NC is "New Concept" in mirrorless tech.
I think it's more easy...Non-mirror camera - 1. As mentioned above

NC = Non-Committal?

Good thing!

A good thing I hope we can pick up from the name NC-1 is that it could be a high end product.
If the naming scheme is in line with the currant K series then a lower number could mean a higher end product..... Or I could be wrong.

I'm expecting the C to reflect the C-mount or CS mount flange focal distance.

Pentax already has plenty of lens designs for this distance, but I expect a new mount in order for it to be more consumer friendly and to play nice with DA* and other K-mount lenses, via adaptors. Adaptors could also provide native support for lenses from other DSLR manufacturers .

An APS-C sensor could be cropped in-camera whenever a lens circle doesn't provide full coverage.

NC-1?
Well, when I first heard about the digital 110 mirrorless rumor, my initial guess for a possible name was CX. This combination, however, is already used by e.g. Citroën, Chrysler and Cathay Pacific ...

If you believe in conspiracy theories, then you might be interested that the ASCII code for capital N is 78 and for lowercase n is 110 (thus nC = 110 Camera)

Lens adapters are expensive, the K-mount adapter for Samsung NX-serie (with only manual focus) cost as a new Sigma zoom... The Olympus OM-adapter for 4/3 is also as expensive. Novoflex third party adapters is less expensive, but still cost quite much money for what is essentially only a metal ring with some mechanics.

Adding lens motor and circuits and controls for this to drive screwdriven AF lenses and price goes up, way beyond what most wants to pay for such an accessory.

It can be done, but not to a good price. This limits the market appeal.

what if the mount is an improved screwmount. Then use of an PK-Adaptor will be good to APS-C
