That is why some might choose it over an XZ1. Now the image quality is important of course but whereas m4/3s (out) competes with compacts and bridge cameras in image quality they do not in size. This could compete potentially on both fronts.
I could buy this argument if they were using a 2/3's sensor, but why in the name of all that is holy would they choose a 1/2.33? With a sensor that small I'm truly failing to see a point in this thing at all. Maybe they're going after Holga users

Well I guess it all depends what kind of 1/2.33 sensor Pentax can source. How much large is a 2/3s sensor? I'm not good on sensor sizes by fractions!

latest on mirrorlessrumors is saying two lenses:

8.5mm f/1.9
5-15mm f/2.8-4.5

in full frame terms, these are equivalent optics (in terms of FOV/DOF) to approx:
50mm F10
28-80 F16-F25

and APS-C:
35mm F6.7
18-55mm F11-F16
(assuming 5.6x crop)

sooooo, there goes anyone's dreams about DOF control w/ the camera. I guess it's good for landscapes, as long as the resolution and DR hold up OK.

It's even worse:
f1.9 equals f13 on FF (aperture goes quadratic)
f2.8 is about f20.

If you want to get a 50/1.4 for this system you have to create a 9mm f0.2 lens! And that is not small.

OK those numbers in terms of DoF aren't great but in terms of speed they're alright.

Plus they're clearly two lenses to be announced as kit lenses (in a rumour no less). That does not in anyway mean that we won't see faster lenses annonced. Pentax make C-mount lenses as fast as f/1.0 at the moment. This is obviously still not going to give you APS-C levels of DoF control but it's not too bad for use in a camera which isn't designed for creative control in the way a DSLR is. And it's going to be a lot better than any other compact camera.

Ha, yeah, I cant wait to see a bunch of portraits like this. Just look at that bokeh! b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l.

Look, I know nice work can be done with small sensor cameras, as seen here:

www.flickr.com/photos/ronya/2853680205/

But I shot with a Canon G2 and a Canon G10 at times over the years. I know how limited they are, and not even f/1 primes are going to change that.

But if they come out with this camera, it's not aimed at who want narrow depth of field. It's for people that want a very compact interchangeable lens system. It's not different from the old 110 AP camera. Who bought it was not to create stunning quality picture. I used a 110 instamatic when I was a kid, and 100 ASA film had grain like peas. Not to mention 400 ASA. The Pentax was a fun toy made to amaze friends, not to shot pictures for the NG. And this camera would be the same.

That said, I simply believe Pentax created the camera to be marketed by Kenko, and the rumors are screwing with that. I guess the rumors about two different Pentax mirrorless are derived from the fact that Pentax designed the small camera for Kenko and a larger one for themselves. IHMO.

I think that if this small sensor information is true, that this would be the best possible scenario. I hope that Pentax shows us something other than a 5.6x crop camera at CP+ though.

This is all part of Pentax's cunning plan to mitigate the inaccuracies of its autofocus system.

5.6x crop makes me sad, honestly why would someone choose this over one of the advanced compacts? Especially since the advanced compacts have a larger sensor and are still pocketable...
It's Kenko system. 14 Mp, 1/2.33" sensor and C-mount.

OK, I can see benefit of a small sensor camera. Low cost, check. Small size, check.

But in a changeable lens camrea? Every advantage of the small sensor is negated in a multiple lens system.

Likewise, any possible benefit of of using multiple lenses will never be seen with such a small sensor.

What am I missing?
