Apparently the X100 is back in production now - Fuji being China-based were less affected by the Japanese crisis than a lot of other companies.

Nice. I just obtained a full Pentax 110 set with all the basic lenses (18mm, 24mm, 50mm) plus the 70 mm f2.8, winder, flash, case and strap. All this for 175 USD.

So I am certainly quite a bit interested in this digital 110 rumor!

I sure hope Pentax sources this EVF from Sony:

We know have confirmation from our sources the A77 will feature a 3 Million dots OLED viewfinder. That more than double of the resolution fo the current Sony A55/33 viewfinder. They have 1,4 Million dots. We have no specific technical details about the new viewfinder but we were told that it has a higher refresh rate and a greater brightness too.
That's nuts. My G1 only has a resolution of 800x600 and it has been enough to convince me the that I'll never need an optical view finder again. A 2000x1500 resolution OLED view finder + faster refresh rate would make me forget about optical view finders all together.

Unlike 35 mm SLRs, the system's lenses did not have a built-in iris to control the aperture. Instead, an iris was mounted inside the camera body, and functioned as both an aperture control and a shutter. This mechanism was capable of programmed exposures between 1/750 second at f/13.5; and 1 second at F/2.8. (link - Wikipedia: Pentax Auto 110)
I wonder if this would be true of a digital version? The above is the reason that all Auto 110 lenses had to be the same max aperture of f/2.8.

If it is 2.7x crop, one prediction I have is that the phrase "f/8 and be there" will be bandied about quite a bit. Only with the crop factor that'd be f/3.2 or something

Edit: hmmm... Auto 110 was only 2x crop. And that leaf shutter basically locked shutter speed to effective aperture. But not having independent aperture/shutter control does not mean no apertures ... you can have aperture and hence DOF control if you have built-in adjustable ND filter plus adjustable ISO - it's a different paradigm but potentially just as flexible.

Well I have a Auto 110 set, so a digital body would be nice to have.

After I bought this I had to buy a set. Next to my old film-Nikon it is a nice little camera.

Placing the aperture in the body is an interesting approach and no doubt helped make the lenses tiny. What are the disadvantages of this setup and would it work well in our digital age?

AUTO 110 in digital is the silliest idea IMO
No fast lenses, very small body and lenses.

No it is not. Not everybody wants to lug a humongous camera around all the time, especially when traveling for daytime work or on other trips where photography is not the main reason behind.

And f/2.8 ain't all that bad for speed.
Most old compact film cams had lenses no faster than f/2.8 also...

I'm not dwarf and my hands are big. The ergonomics and size must be in harmony.

Your film compact had 24*36 mm size of light receiver.
f2.8 is good for zoom lenses at APS-C. but not for most fixed lenses.

for crop 2 and smaller censors - f2.8 is no good at all.
