I really think the lens on the camera has been doctored. Look closely at the pixels. There is a square area about 17x17 pixels around the red markings in which everything has a different tint. Look at the almost perfectly hard transition from red and green to grey at the edges of this square. And I don't understand why there would be so much greenish tint there. Maybe it's just that this is the only area with colour, and the Pentax marketing dept. boosted saturation or colour contrast on the photo.
These are just regular JPEG artifacts. You can easily verify this yourself:

1. Create a small picture that is grey with some small red detail:

2. Save it as a mid- to low-quality JPEG:

Boom. All sorts of funky colour distortions.

Also, I'm pretty good at reading unreadable text so I can tell y'all that the lens mounted on the camera says "smc PENTAX 1:1.9 8.5 mm AL (IF)"

So it is aspherical and internal focus. Good to know (?)

Do you think they will include SDM contacts? Will we see it released with a cheaper Limited size lens, or with a DA-L 35mm? Or will it be high-end enough to warrant a DA 40 Ltd?
...
Perfect for me and candid street photography - silent, compact, high end glass.
99% chance that it is a new mount so small limiteds only fit with adapter.

Silent? The mirrorless sony NEX is more loud than the K-5 for example. It will only be totally silent if the mechanical shutter can be eliminated

I'm wondering if their idea is to use the same production lines for these lenses as they use for their surveilance lenses (former cosmicar). In that case it does not compete with the APS-C lens production at all.

my guess is you are right douglas, particularly since the Kenko also uses C mount of some sort

I think that we have to wait and see what finally comes out, and accept the fact that we may not be the target audience.

And we should give Pentax some benefit of the doubt, as they've been on a roll lately - K-x, 645D, K-r, K-5, W90, etc....

Even if this camera isn't for me, I do hope that it's a success.

That would possibly make sense, but:
+ the c-mount can accommodate a much larger sensor if this diagram is correct.
+ the JPG-only Kenko was listed at ¥30,000 for a camera that sounds ostensibly the same (e.g. 14MP), and I'm guessing that any credible C-mount lenses aren't cheap
+ this thing offers none of the effects and sharing functionality that an iPhone provides .. and the iPhone 4 does have a BSI chip at 1/3.2" size
+ people are already putting C-mount lenses on vastly more capable m43 bodies

This thing strikes me as fairly backward-thinking as well as limited.

But news of the APS-C mirrorless unit is welcome!

Right. Still think it's a fake, though, since the two lenses are too much the same. Seriously - everything more than 20 pixels below the top of the lenses is exactly the same, including the front lens element.

I wonder if they are going to use one of those Omnivision BSI chips that support 1080p with simultaneous 10mp jpeg capture..

And then draw on their CCTV lens experience to produce a proper hybrid video/stills compact offering - it would certainly fill a niche..

And I don't see a lot of discussion on what the 'other' big knob on the front might be for.. hmmm.. it could be:

- A sensor orientation knob - lets you orient it portrait or landscape by rotating (a la half-frame when portrait)
- A multifunction control knob
- A manual focus control - or focus pull with presets for video (!?!)
- A dedicated video/stills control
- An aperture dial
- An aspect ratio control

Or it might be some more bling shoved on the front maybe?

For video the gap is in AF lenses. That's what the consumer needs/wants.

Size comparison

I'm surprised no one did this yet. Here's a side-by-side of the rumored camera with a K-r and a Panasonic GF1. This is all based on approximate size of the hot shoe. Also attached is the NC-1 overlaid with a GF1 silhouette.

It looks like this would be about the size of the Panasonic GF2.
