And howcan they give anything else than 9 or 10 for dynamic range? OK, they could reserve 10 for the few full frames that score higher than K-5, but at least 9.

They actually gave the D7000 9/10 for build quality yet K-5 gets 8/10

This is print media - the review may actually have been written months ago (before DxO testing, etc). And anyway, they admit they're amateurs.

Also build quality - how many better built cameras are there out there in the enthusiast market ? Should also have been a 9 or 9.5. This and the DR are the only scores are the only ones I disagree with though. And it should be noted that 85% is a great overall rating.

It was a strange review, new tester with a lot of inconsistancies. He gave out about the brightness of the viewfinder but only used the kit lens. Firmware was still at version 1 as only 7 RAW shots for 1 second mentioned. He liked the handling but scored equal to the D7000, resolution tests and the K-5 won @ all ISOs yet they scored the same. The compare section mentioned that it was equal to the D300s speed wise but slower than the 7D, no mention of the price difference.

Given his talk of still sluggish focus, what is he comparing it too, if he tests a canikon with a higher end lens then uses the least sophisticated lens in the Pentax line how can he make a valid comparison

An the DR and build ranks are baffling. while i would have quibbles with the k5 on some things including focus i guess, the build is superior to pretty much any DSLR with the exception of the highest price ones out there. same with the DR.
I know it's amateur photographer, but it shouldn't be amateur reviewer

The only issue with dynamic range that I can see is that it loses some as you up in iso. Otherwise, it scores the highest of any camera out there, short of the Nikon D3x. I guess this shows the inability of just eyeballing a photo and judging the dynamic range based on that. Still, I have seen some pretty impressive photos, severely underexposed and then pulled up, showing the dynamic range clearly.

just goes to show what a pile this review really is...The D7000 does not come close to the K5 build quality ..it feels very cheaply made to me ..compared to a K5 that is

I guess Pentax didn't pay the magazine enough - er I mean didn't buy enough advertising full pages - to get a higher review score =D
