Just remember guys, it's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it. :-)
Yes, when I was in grade school, we several boys would gather at the back of the building to pee and to compete who could shoot the highest on the wall. Size did not count.

In Winnipeg?

In that winter cold, size could not matter.

Nor in the summer with mosquitos the size of condors.

No, Thank You

My hat's off to Pentax. The Q has achieved the impossible:
It's made m4/3 look appealing.

SHIFTING FORMATS - GIANNI GALASSI PhotoGraphia

QuoteOriginally posted by Gianni Galassi:
So how current formats should be considered compared to the old film formats? Here is my chart:

* 1/2.3" sensor (p&s pocket cameras) = Minox 8x11 mm film;
* 1/1.7" sensor (hi-end Compacts like Canon G12) = Olympus Pen 18x24 mm half format film;
* Micro Four Thirds sensor = 24x36 mm Leica film;
* 24x36 mm sensor = 120/220 roll medium format film;
* 35x50 mm sensor (Hasselblad, Leica S2) = large format sheet film;

That's not totally unserious ... for color film.

For B&W film however, the shifting goes in the opposite direction. I resolve several hundred megapixel with a lens like the FA 31 and good B&W film. I really need to write an article about though -- I already got myself a microscope to actually find it out

Likely with higher IQ, ISO, DR than the Ricoh GX100 the photos above were taken with. And the flexibility of interchangeable lenses.

If you can't take a good picture with a camera like the Q, don't blame the camera.

So, pictures devoid of any detail that is distant and challenging to resolve without revealing the mass quantities of detail-smearing noise reduction being used? Just kidding.

To answer the OP's question, my opinion is twofold, as in (1) I couldn't give a rat's keister, and (2) that if the objective is to make a small, pocketable interchangeable lens camera system, it makes sense to use a small sensor. An APS-C sensor makes the system an awkward joke, like the Sony NX thingie, a cigarette pack with a soup can of a lens (necessitated by the image circle needed to cover the sensor) mounted on it. If you're going to have lenses that big, you might as well go with a dSLR and get it over with; the result is better balanced and easier to hold. As for Pentax's Q, I'm sure it will be a fad in Japan, not so sure it will sell in meaningful numbers elsewhere.

I agree with you, 24x36NOW and i like very much your pseudonyme !

Why are the lenses larger than the auto 110's lenses, which have to cover a larger image circle?

I would say because AF motor.

This is the reason why C&N kit lenses are significantly bigger than Pentax Kit lenses (for the exact same zoom and aperture range)
