It also comes with two filters packaged with the lens.

Yeah, me too.

[dream mode on]

In fact, I only need three lenses - normal, wide-angle and short tele. DFA 25/4, DFA 55/2.8 and let's say FA 150/2.8 would be nice. Although, I wouldn't mind having FA 75/2.8 as well.

$5k per lens? Ouch. I guess those that need the ultimate resolution in a landscape camera will buy into this system, but the 645D system doesn't exactly sound like much of a bargain when you compare it to something like a Canon 1Ds. The 645D sensor isn't that much larger than a 35mm sensor in terms of crop factor. The next Canon 1Ds should come pretty close to matching the resolution of the 645D, and be much cheaper with a far more flexible lens selection to boot. Since the 645D is using a cropped sensor Pentax doesn't have a portrait lens that can match the Nikon 85mm f/1.4. The 150mm f/2.8 is way too long on the 645D. I guess Pentax is just going after landscape guys, because as a portrait photographer I just don't see the glass I'd need in the 645D line up. But since I don't shoot photos for billboards my opinion probably doesn't matter too much on this camera.

The lens seems to cover full-frame 645. I bet the next 645D model will have a larger sensor - this lens will look less expensive then.

Well the next thing would be likely a portrait lens (read somewhere that they are working on it) and the KAF-50100 in the body to bring a high quality 50 megapixel camera.

I feel that with the next release of 36 or more MP 24x36 DSRL, many lenses will need a revamp, because the existing will have not enough resolution. So I think the owners will have to open the wallet some more.

At the same time the cover circle of the 645D means the roadmap of the 645D is headd to at least 48x36 territory, and maybe a larger one too.

The new Phase One 60mp and 80mp backs have measure 53.9 x 40.4 and 53.7 x 40.4, i.e. very close to Pentax 645 film frame size (56x41.5).

If Pentax would make a 645D version with one of these sensors, the new lens would correspond to a 16mm on FF (or a 10.5 mm on APS-C)!

I think true FF 6x4,5 is still too much expensive territory for Pentax. But 36x48 I think it could be in the work. It's the de-facto standard digital medium format.

Pentax will use Kodak sensors.

All new DFA lenses will be MF FF lenses. All old MF lenses are in production line.

Most likely the KAF-50100 as first upgrade sensor.

Wow didn't see that roadmap before. So nothing new this year except the 25mm. A portraitlens in 2012. So maybe a 105mm/f2 lens or is that to much being 2.4?

I doubt. I think Kodak will make new bigger sensor with more MP.
40 to 50 MP is not serious upgrade for MF.

And I think that we won't see low-end 645D. And I think new digital MF camera will be close to 2013.

Compared to something like a Canon 1Ds, the 645D is not supposed to be a bargain; but to completely, utterly trash it when it comes to image quality.

The point is I don't think it will utterly trash the 1Ds Mk IV, at least not so enough to justify the compromises and extra cost a person will have to make by buying into the 645D system. The next 1Ds will have a wider ISO range, better off camera flash system, faster autofocus, and a much more versatile lens system.

I'm not trying to put down the 645D, because it is an amazing landscape camera, and should in theory produce sharper images than 35mm systems even with the same resolution, but Pentax needs to seriously update their lens line up if they intend to stick with the cropped 645D sensor because when I look at it now I see the best landscape camera in the world, but not much else. There are simply shots you can make with a 1Ds using a 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, or 135mm f/2 that the 645D can't do because f/2.8 is no longer an ultra thin aperture when you take into account the 645D's crop factor.

I'd much rather have a 645D with two-three lenses than a 1Ds MK IV with a full bag of lenses.

I guess the 645D has a more specific use than the Canon versatile monster.
