What's the difference?

Added a K10D to my DS kit. Sure don't regret doing it. The DS mostly sits at home. K10D adds so much control over the image that the DS lacks or only does slowly. Do wish the K10D was a little smaller.
Can't wait to see what they do next in Jan. Should be interesting. Hope it works out well for them. Like the way the Nikon allows using aps lenses on FF body.
thanks

Not to put words in Ben's mouth but I think he's hinting that Pentax designed their own and now needs someone to "fab" it. Unlike an "off the shelf" package (w possible modifications) as is the Sony sensor(s). Not sure how this would help the bottom line though. It looks to be a costly project if in fact it exists. Unless Sony's way overcharging for an off the shelf sensor. Nikon's modifications to the existing Sony sensor for the 200 were not "earth shattering" and probably simple to do and probaly relatively cheap. A whole new "design" would not be.
Even if this were so, I'd lean towords Samsung as the "manufacturer" BUT I'm getting a bit leary that Hoytax wants to deal w/ a Korean company.

I actually find my DS uncomforable after getting used to k10d with grip, especially with heavier lenses I find my whole hand does not fit and my pinky ends up holding under the bottom of the camera and has to support the camera from not tilting forward due to the heavy lens and that gets sore fast.

I wouldnt mind if the k10d got a big lighter, and the size can be annoying when packing it in a bag, but its very usefull when shooting. the grip on the battery grip could be more comfortable though, its not as wide as the one on the main body.

My interpretation:
Supplier = buy sensor designed and manufactured by someone else.
Manufacturer = Let someone produce your own sensor design.

The manufacturer alternative is interesting...

Hmm, this is strange.
Why should a sensor designed by Pentax be better?

Good question. I just hope that it processes the images faster than the ability of the company to deliver new products

However for FF film cameras (and APS digital) they still list:
... FA*300 f2.8,....

sorry to barge in on this amusing rumour threat. But where in the world can I purchase a new FA* 300mm f2.8?! (says it, money in hand...)

Thanks

Well I know they have them in japan where it is available for ¥396,886. the FA 600 is ¥759,800.

They make these to order, so I would contact Pentax UK and tell them you want this lens and ask how it can be arranged...

Could you kindly point us to the Announcement... can't find it anywhere. Perhaps it was pulled by Hoytax [or should that be Pentoya]... haha

Laser assisted autofocus would be a boon.
Yeah, specially for portraits.

Why doesn't Pentax look into "adopting" the FoveonX3 technology sensor!? The Foveon sensor is honestly the best sensor ever made. The technology has sooooo much potential and does soooo well as it is right now, but it is sooo limited only being in Sigma's camera bodies! A Pentax body with a Foveon X3 sensor would be a camera to drool over!
