120-300 2.8 weather sealed? If it's quality is good, I'm doomed to buy this lens.

Now here's a pertinent question... HSM or SDM? Pentax is a joke. Wretched quality with a pathetic matching warranty.
If that is the way you feel, what the h... are you doing here, why don't you get out and go for a brand that makes you happy?????

But $1.400 for a WR 12-24 mm without a constant aperture, is that realistic? I know that the DA12-24 is no bargain either, but it is constant F4 and tack sharp.

All in all, I really like to have more WR options besides the Pentax lenses, the 3-year Sigma warranty is tempting and their latest lenses have received a lot of praise (17-50 for instance). It is always good to have an extra option!

Nice attempt at moderation...

There are many reasons as to why someone might want to have a Pentax camera and non-SDM Pentax lenses. I'm a Pentax "fan" myself but I wouldn't buy any of their "Sudden Death Motor" lenses.

It's a good thing undoubtedly.

Pentax builds the Sigma SD-1 for them, Sigma brings their entire line to K-mount (eventually they will).

This is something that brings value to both brands.

I personally have used the Sigma 105 macro in the Nikon mount and I must say it is a fantastic lens. It is also very interesting that some of them come to K-mount while retaining their in-lens Optical Stabilization. This will be a perfect platform to test which stabilization technique is more effective.

Hopefully Hoya finds some way to lure Tamron (Sony) back to the K-mount bandwagon and eventually other brands like Cosina / Voigtlander and Zeiss will return to the format as well.

And there is news from Sigma benelux that it will come in Pentax K-mount, only not yet stated when.

APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM

This is great news, I was thinking of the 12-24 to compliment my 24-70. I'll wait now until the weather sealed product works it's way into the supply chain (and probably sell my DA 14 at that point)
I'm not worried about QC issues at all. In Canada we pay a little more for Sigma but it comes with a 10 year warranty up here. I'd look at Pentax SDM products if they backed it up with this kind of warranty.
For me the most useful focal lengths for WR technology are the wides

I already have the Sigma 300mm 2.8. Does anyone have any experience with the 120-300 f2.8 in other mounts? While the flexibility of a zoom has its attractions, I am concerned about any potential loss in image quality at the 300mm end compared to the prime...

The APO 120-300 F2,8 EX DG OSM HSM looks like an all-new design. Will probably have to wait for test reports later in the spring.

The shutterbug review says the previous revision outperforms (and was confirmed by sigma) the Sigma 300/2.8 prime: Shutterbug: Sigma’s 120-300mm f/2.8 APO HSM Zoom Lens :

I called Tom Sobey at Sigma to report my findings. He confirmed what I had experienced. Sigma’s optical engineers have produced a 120-300mm zoom lens that does in fact outperform their fixed 300mm lens. Wide-open I would say that it is noticeably sharper than the old 300mm f/2.8 fixed Sigma lens.

wow what a service of Sigma to tell me today that there are no plans on a K-mount
It's a really good business model. When interested parties ask about my professional photography services, I tell them that I'm not into professional photography. So far I've made no money, but I'm just getting started, and I think things will really pick up when I'm done getting my name not out there.

This is great news, indeed. I hope they'll eventually get to bringing a sealed 17-50 or even just their 17-70. I know I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

I had thought of getting a 16-50, but the numerous stories of people here with failed copies do concern me.

The 50-150mm 2.8 looked great until I noticed that the dimensions are the same as the Sigma full-frame 70-200mm 2.8.

Whatever happened to the supposed size savings of the APS-C sensor?
