Sigma Starting to Produce Weather Sealed Lenses?

Just saw the announcement on the forum home page.... sigma is getting into the weather sealed game. i wonder how it will compare to the DA* or WR sealing. Will be really nice to have some sealed options from sigma though. They are doing a 12-24, wish they would have done the sealing for the recent 8-16. Glad to we will have the option of quality sealed lenses without SDM here pretty soon though!

I have only one Sigma lens (12-24 4,5/5,6) and it is a quality lens indeed.

Absolutely!

Now here's a pertinent question... HSM or SDM? Pentax is a joke. Wretched quality with a pathetic matching warranty.

That comment isn't any better than the one you were replying to.

lol...that was my first thought as well.
Had to go through 3 copies of the 17-70 to find a good one. Had to return a 70-200/2.8 because the front lens coating had seltzer bubbles in it. Only thing that hasn't given me issues is their 10-20.
They do have a better 3yr warranty on their EX lenses though...

They're bringing out the 120-300mm f2.8 for K-Mount. Maybe they will produce their higher end super-teles like the 300-800mm f5.6 and 800mm f5.6?

As for Sigma quality, they've come a long way. They still have issues, but when you get a good copy, it's really good. I own several Sigma zooms and have found them all to be very good with the first copy I received. The exception to that was first copy of the 18-50mm f2.8. The second one was very good.

This is NOT true. Just got an answer from Sigma USA since I'm struggling with this question:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your e-mail and inquiry.

1) There is no information about Pentax AF mount for the new 120-300mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens at this point.

2) Also there is no information for new 300mm f2.8 lens.

Sincerely,

Customer Service

Actually yes, it IS true !

Sigma announces new lenses for Pentax
120-300mm/2.8, 150mm F2.8, 12-24mm, 105mm macro

In a press release today, Sigma announced that it is upgrading its existing 120-300mm F2.8 and Macro 150mm F2.8 lenses with the latest OS and HSM technologies. In addition, these lenses will become weather-sealed and will finally be made available in the Pentax mount. Furthermore, a new weather-sealed 12-24mm wide-angle zoom was announced. These lenses will be launched in April, and we expect to see their K-mount variants to surface in May.

In the press release, Sigma also revealed plans of updating its 50-150mm F2.8 and Macro 105mm F2.8 lenses with the latest technologies.

Ron, here is the official PR:

Sigma Corporation shares pricing, availability for three weather-resistant lenses | sigmaphoto.com
All lenses will be released in Nikon and Canon mounts first, and will be available in Sigma, Pentax and Sony mounts shortly thereafter.

I wonder if the 12-24mm is going to be any good.
