I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the "something" is from the company whose logo he blurred and then added to the picture in the post:
Yes -- and the name starts with "Merc" as far as I can tell but I have found no companies called Mercury, Mercantile, Mercenary, Mercurial etc. with a logo similar to that one

If anyone wants to internet-detective this further please do, maybe we could uncover the truth and spoil this party early?

Yeah the key may be in that blured logo, it does looks kinda like "merc" but i cant think of any photography related company that is similar that starts with those letters.

Metz first came to mind but their logo is red.

Maybe it's a new 3-D lens.

Jason

come to think of it, it wouldn't just be for the K-5 and K-7 if so...nevermind

You still need new firmware to interface with the unit and incorporate the data.

Yeah, how do you reckon a device on the hot-shoe could write JPEG EXIF data without firmware support?

If this is in fact what the blog is referring to, my reaction would be "that's it??"
This is it. The thing does something else other than geo tagging.

Intreguing picture Met.... and the underline starts with Pizott....

The most changing would be 3G with simcard. When you are working, if that is in a stadium or somewhere in nature that as soon you have a connection possibillity you can send your frames to your employer/buyer or the one who will pull these true photoshop.

Then there was someone talking about android or iOS and to me that means Android, because Apple is not the company to share their technologie with everyone.

Hmm, I don't care for the idea of a GPS battery grip. I like battery grips for studio use, but I don't need/want GPS for that. I only want GPS when I'm hiking or traveling, which means I'd want a small camera. Adding a battery grip is obviously going in the wrong direction size-wise.

Ihope it's this..

I hope it is for full tethering, will save me buying a Canon EOS so I can fully tether in studio using iTouch as remote. Then again it could be for making coffee when out in the field.
