Apples and oranges (as they admit in the article).

More media stupidity.

lots of grammatical and spelling errors...wonder if it was proofread before posted?

Nice, thorough review though. But is it wise to compare a studio camera to a field camera? I assume that's what they were meant to be?

really dumb completely different target markets for the 2, why not include the m9 in the test as well and cover all shooters
Silly
I'd rather see a shootout versus the low end mamya ZD which competes on price with half the MP and comes with an 80mm lens, but gives the option of using a film back as well or the leaf aptus II 5/phase one DF combo also in the same price category

Actually I know about few who bought the 1D for application where 645d would be more appropriate. So it is not that insane comparison.

I think I should do a shootout between my John Deere Tractor and Ford Pickup.

Conclusion:
They both have their strengths and weaknesses; the pickup is faster at 0-60, but the tractor can plow the field.

but did they buy it before the 645d was out, or was budget also a consideration (you can after all get a lot more canon gear for the 12 grand than Pentax)
It'll be interesting to see the mark 2 version of the 645d when it inevitably comes out (probably with full frame 645 as even the new lenses are designed for full frame - I'd love to see results from the 25 on full frame, like shooting a 15MM on 35mm ultra wide like medium format never had, and compare it to the 35 which is already an amazing ultra wide)

I agree. I pissed off a few people in a thread not long ago when I said I'd rather use a 35mm camera over the 645D. I didn't do it to upset or flame anyone, it is a very real choice someone has to make IMHO. The fact is these cameras are similarly priced and their target markets do have some overlap.

Will be interesting to see what happens in the future. If Pentax makes a "full frame" 645D it will surely widen the image quality gap it already has. However, as it is now that gap might not be large enough to compensate for negatives that come with a medium format camera.

I agree. And now they could be interested whether purchase od rugged medium format brings them a lot of improvement. Those on budget probably get 5DMk2 anyway, even if it is not sealed.

I believe they will. The 645D was a success and the DFA25 covers the image circle.

there is sure a lot of talk about it and now that phase has 2 out with the full frame it's only a matter of time for the sensor to be priced well enough to flow into the 645D, I thought i read somewhere that Pentax had even said they planned for it at some point to happen (probably in relation to the release of the 25)

Posted a comment reminding the reviewer that SDXC cards do indeed work with the 645D via a firmware update. Shows how much he researched things.

You've gotta be pretty bored, or obsessed with comparison tests to want to put these two cameras together.

He seemed a little bias in favor of the Canon, but overall the article was interesting and did bring up some valid points on how each camera body has and intended target usage. I don't understand why he likes the blown sky exposures of the Canon over the uniform feel of the Pentax. The Pentax is obviously designed to maximize the recording of useful image data. He even eventually points out that he prefers the Pentax images overall, so I guess using the Pentax changed his mind a bit.

He should update the article to point out that SDXC are at least usable now with the 645D ("Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class." according to pentax.jp site)...
