Joke's on OP - original thread was started after noon, so it doesn't count!

Oh! Wait! Post-modern April Fools joke, maybe...
Seems like it from what I have read today at the other site!

Holy sh ...!!

.... does that come with an electric motor to activate the Gimball or whatever way you'd need to support that monster?

not when 1.4 TC's are involved, but you have to agree that if pentax produced a 400mm f/5.6 it would be a step in the right direction towards developing further super telephoto lenses. And if they did produce telephoto lenses they would be more inclined to produce TC's, Perhaps we might live to see a 800mm f/5.6 - which interestingly is the limit of the in body IS used in pentax cameras.

it's not often you see the Pentax 67 800mm f/4 - I use the M*67 800mm f/6.7 which weighs in a 6.4Kg and it is much more manageable than the f/4 version - which is still the longest auto-aperture non-mirror prime 67 lens in history.

A New DA*400mm f/5.6 makes more sense at this point in the game.
As said, it doesn't.

But a 500/5.6 would. I once laid out all hypothetical specs for such a lens, incl. a $2000 price tag.

I'm thinking some sort of adapted anti-aircraft artillery mounting.

Yes, a 500/5.6 would make a lot of sense. A 135-400/4.0-5.6 would also make sense. Instead Pentax has a patent for a 25-330, mwhich really don't make sense.
