Once again these are for the Japanese market. Given they have seen big gains there due to colours hey I have no issue with it, I think some of them are pretty cool. and a Black Grey camo K5 would probably push me over the purchasing precipice if I could get it here

Different strokes for different folks I guess. As for me, I would not be caught dead with one of these...

I can think of several words to describe them. "Cool" isn't one of them.
I can't believe this is helping Pentax position itself as a Pro/Serious enthusiast level camera.
My thoughts exactly!

Sorry but I find your viewpoint very narrow-minded.

The Kr is a high quality entry level camera. As such being available in different colours means it attracts people from all walks of life and cultures. Many of whom find the fact they can choose a camera's colour to fit their personality the deciding factor in selecting their first DSLR (or even for switching from another brand).

The fact that the Kr is such a great little camera inevitably leads them to the K5 (or whatever is the flagship or step up model when they choose to upgrade).

All of which can only be good for Pentax in the long run.

n.b. I saw an ad for Canons in 4 different colours today. All manufacturers will follow Pentax's lead sooner or later.

Hmm...I suppose there would be some 'hunters' and such that would. I don't know any of them though.
Yeah right... the wildlife will never see me coming with my rainbow/black camo camera.

I vote to weather-seal the K-r Black Khaki/Camo model and give it to wartime journalistic photographers.

I seriously like that brown camouflage version! Too bad it isn't water resistant. I remember commenting that Pentax should release a camo one for hunting and such. It's cool they have.

I wrote an article on my blog about this because I can see some nice possibilities here.

Obviously, Pentax isn’t targeting outdoor people with this release, but they seriously could do that with a few modifications.

1. Make a weather resistant version of the K-r.
2. Make the body finish matte brown instead of glossy.
3. Make the Pentax logo and other white text black instead.
4. Make a weather-resistant camouflage (or matte brown) version of the Pentax DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED lens to go along with the body.
5. Attempt to quiet down the K-r shutter and mirror slap sounds.

That would be a perfect field camera out of the box! It would be small, light weight, functional, dependable, and a natural fit for outdoors animal photography.

C'mon guys, this getting ridiculous. Same thing each there have another colored edition out.
Don't you think they'd have stopped that long ago if it didn't work?
Plus, most if not all of this is destined to Japanese market. So what's the he'll is the problem?
It costs them nothing and it sells, so what?

hey, if the rainbow colored one came with a new firmware update that corrected the front focus issue, i'd probably trade in my white KR for it.
