WONDERFUL !!!

I know Ken for some time as a very knowledgable man in regards of Nikon (and Canon).
While I was on the black side of photography, I used his website as a constant source of information.

This very website here is a much better well of information in regards of Pentax, because it is interactive!

Nice array of well-deserved awards - though I'm not fond of Sigma clinching the best expert lens award with their 70-200. I wonder what other lenses were in contention for this award...

That's great, but then one has to wonder how they picked the Nikon 7000 over the K-5!

Why do I have the feeling the TIPA awards are given just to boost sales?
TIPA - TECHNICAL IMAGE PRESS ASSOCIATION - This year's awards

I looks to me like everyone got a piece of the pie. Even Sigma and Tamron got each an award.
I'm not saying that any of these products are bad or that they don't deserve the awards, just that it feels like 1st grade in school when everyone (or almost) got 1st prize.
I guess by now we're all used to seeing the blue TIPA badge on promo pictures and labels and I think it influences the buyers. At least in the sense that the product isn't total crap.
That being said, I own a Vanguard bag and I can't say the TIPA award badge didn't influence me in buying it.

silence you, all the children are happy with their price

And congrats for the 645D.

Maybe for K-5, an extra cardslot, faster processor would help.

If you look at the award winners it's almost like a pat on the back for doing something risky, useful, or innovative. The 'risk' could be mild, but something we were glad to see the company do anyway. For example, the E-5 may be the last flagship DSLR for Olympus, but it was important to release a current body for all those great Olympus lenses.

The X100 and 645D were obvious risks, and the D7000 came in at an unexpectedly low price point. Some of the lenses could be viewed as really needed in the marketplace, or needed from that manufacturer.

I think the above factored in more than the absolute quality of the products, or their quality compared to the competition. The message is not that the E-5 is the greatest camera in its price range, or that the D7000 is better than the K-5. But the manufacturer is being applauded for bringing them to market the way they did.

I'm not claiming this is their stated motivation, but it appears to be their message.

is AF speed any better on the Nikon? if so, probably that's the reason. but on other departments, I would choose the K-5 anyday, except for the bugs and QC concerns.

For various reasons, there are many people who feel that the Nikon D7000 is a better camera than the K-5. Whether it is or not, what difference does it make?
