It would be nice to have some old FA* lenses (I already own the FA Ltds) and use these lenses on a FF camera. I am sure some of these old lenses will not be "good enough" for a FF camera.

Still making a new camera for owners of old lenses don't seem to be a money making business plan.

FOOL! It might be a new line of microfiber cleaning cloth that enables the near legendary and mythical full frame mode in the K5! Take your flair for the obvious and your powers of objective reasoning and logic elsewhere! This is a forum for wild and rampant speculation!!!

Just kidding... Here we go again, everyone. Pentax puts something under a cloth and the speculation runs the gamut from the Loch Ness monster, to the latest piece of technology from Area 51...

Apparently what FF backers really want is really a relatively inexpensive full frame camera compared to the rest of the market, but economic realities weigh against that for a small maker like Pentax. There are no magic bullets, and a FF Pentax would be priced at at least parity with the other brands, and quite possibly higher. Hoya is not in the practice of giving away its products at cost. Would you pay USD $2900 for one?

Is the cloth part of a Magic Trick? I wonder who will get to tap the wand and say the magic word?

They're taking their sweet time about this whole announcement.

Yes! Even more.

The reason: my favourite lenses are my FA* 24mm f/2, FA Ltd 31mm f/1.8, DA* 55mm f/1.4, FA* 85mm f/1.4

And: I would love to have my 24mm as a 24mm and my 31mm as a 31mm :-/ ... the 55 and 85 I would not matter that much

Oh yeah for sure But there are obviously pros willing to shell out 15k for the 645D and a lens, so a mere 3 or 4k is chump change by comparison. Try pricing a Profoto pack and lights with modifiers and you'll begin to understand the kind of money professional photographers spend to have well-engineered, reliable equipment. And that's just lights, you also need a studio, a top notch flash meter, radio triggers, a tripod, stands, backdrops, a work station, a large format inkjet... Well maybe you don't *need* all those things to be a pro, but none of that matters if your camera is the limiting factor in achieving your creative vision.

I am a professional musician. I play on a $3500 trombone that was custom made for me by the Getzen Corporation. It is the single best horn I have ever played. I didn't bat an eye when they handed me the bill, ya know why? Cuz I use it all the time to make my living. It's on my face five hours a day or more. It is my voice - it has to be the best, and it is. A professional photographer expects the same out of his camera and is willing to pay for it.

I will say if it carries a four thousand dollar price tag, it better be on par with the Mk IV or the D3s. Pentax has the ability and the know-how to produce a professional full frame camera that can hold it's own against anything from Canon, Nikon, Sony, or Olympus. They proved it with their first digital venture into the professional realm which was just named "Best Professional DSLR for 2011" by TIPA. Think about that for a minute; there was no direct precursor to the 645D, it didn't take them four revisions to get it right, they just stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam in their first at bat. It's time to repeat that feat with a full frame body. Just my 1.633482 yen worth.

31, 43 and 77 already exist

Plus lots of the existing lenses are full frame already. Just to name a few: DA* 55/1.4 SDM, both 50mm and 100mm macros, the DA* 200 and DA* 300, etc. etc.

Just issue a few new zooms (a 11-16mm, 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8), that's all. Hardly rocket science for a company like Pentax.

FAJ 18-35/3.5-5.6 jest chyba produkowane. Do tego przerobić (tak jak przerobiono 200/2.8) FA 28-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8, dodać fantastyczny FA 24-90/3.5-4.5 i system gotowy.
Podobnie, jak Infoomatic chcę, by moje szkła były takie same jak na kliszy.

Afaik and according to Falk, 60-250 is FF Lens, da40 as well and maybe da70.

To Maxfield_photo: I mainly agree but 645D sells well because the price is way lower than competition. It also is WRed and has very good AF (for an mf cam)
An hypothetical FF cam should be both competitive AND boast lower price or nobody will buy Pentax.
I hate to write the though.

I think for the next few years ......

the ff thing is dead.

Pentax (according to a RH report with Pentax top officials) is concentrating on the 645 system.

Have not ruled out FF, but it is not important.

IMHO, they will not come out with FF, just better and better APS-C cameras and lenses, and the 645 will be their high end camera.

IMHO, the K-5 is a great camera,, I wonder what the next year will bring ;- )

I have a theory that Pentax pulls these stunts to see what type a speculation it will create, and then eavesdrops in on the conversation. Maybe they'll take the hint, maybe I'm just paranoid.

Yes, but for working I would need to buy at least two, so that's at least $5800 for me then.
