Why are you so surprised?
The fact there will be 2 mirrorless cams has been known (to me at least) for past 2 months...
I'm just not too sure if they'll manage to deliver them on time (just see the delays on silver DA ltds...)

Wow, that is so exciting, they have confirmed it will be a K-Mount APS-C! They are going to make it big with this one... Now if it has an optical viewfinder too I am in there...

Exactly... prior to this, they were just rumours... based on apparent leaks and whatnot.

Now that it has been pretty much been confirmed by Pentax, people can no longer say "they're not going to do it" and instead speculate on features and what it will look like

Only if they figured out a new way to do an optical viewfinder on a mirrorless system. IIRC, Canon owns the patent on a semi-transparent prism thingy that will allow such a thing. And somehow I doubt Pentax would go paying them to use it .

What's so exciting about K-mount for a mirrorless camera? You lose both on size and the possibility of simple pancake wide angle lenses. I'm not sure I believe that part of the story.

You are basically talking about a version of Sonys SLT-cameras, the a55 for example. The K-x is as small as K-mount goes. Why make the K-x mirrorless without any size advantages?

This pentax rep. has been reading on the same rumor sites and forums as we have. Nothing more imo.

Do you remember *ist DS? Remove mirror and make just a bit compact body -
it's good for me, for example. DA15/4 is rather compact lens.

Good if that's true! Personally I don't see the advantage of a mirror box if there's an electronic screen which shows WYSIWYG. To me the old ground glass screen is absolutely useless to assess the bokeh and plane of focus. Using the imaging sensor both for metering and AF is a much better idea. I'm all for it; no more AF issues because of the discrepancy between the flange to sensor, ground glass screen and AF sensor distances... No more focus adjustments needed for AF lenses, and at the same time a perfect solution for manual focusing (old and new lenses). Great!

Of course, the old system does not consume any power in idle mode, but rechargables are cheap and abundant nowadays. So that's not an issue for me.

Back to the black cloth mystery it is then..

I was getting quite excited there, am hanging out for an announcement, as this may well fit my need perfectly.

The black cloth fantasy continues then!

Could someone answer this very basic question please: what is 1 / 2, 33 inches?
I have never seen a fraction expressed this way before. Thanks.

Imo 'based on k mount' does not mean uses k mount.
A micro k mount with adapters for plain k mount would fit the comments as well.
