FA 35mm and FA 20-35mm - old Pentax stock

Per this news post: Full-Frame Pentax 20-35mm/4 and 35mm/2 Available! - Pentax News - PentaxForums.com

Turns out that these lenses are old stock that Pentax found. The quantities are limited, but plentiful!

Can I reserve the FA*85 now if they would ever find some hidden stock?

I noticed it yesterday: CameraNU.nl - Zoom - Pentax SMC FA 20-35mm f/4.0 AL but with 729 euro it is expencive.

So how good is this lens? It is a very nice reach for a wide-to-normal-angel lens.

There is something amusing about this (at least to me.) I can't help imagining someone pulling out stock shelves to do some cleaning and finding some lenses that had fallen down behind. Score!

I'd buy up one of those 20-35mm lenses if they were in the lower $500 price range. Is the current price reflective of what they sold for new back in the day?

Ron, I really like my copy, sharp corner to corner even wide open with very very good color rendition. Good close focusing lens too. Don't know if it's worth 729 euros tho, that's a lot of money for a less than 2X zoom with a constant F/4.0 aperture. I think I paid about $350 or less for mine (it was a while ago) second hand. Certainly worth at least $400. Great garden/landscape lens. Light and unobtrusive also, would make a good "street" lens.

edit: everyone who owns one likes it, gets good marks on our lens database

NaCl(but at 730 euros I'm not so sure)H2O

I think the FA* 250-600, especially in the later years, was only made on order. The same was true for the FA* 600/4.

Nice to know: the FA* 250-600 was more expensive than the FA* 600/4. To be precise the 250-600 was 18% more expensive (based on the MSRP in Dutch Guilders).

Are you sure these were old stock? They were never unavailable here in Japan even when discontinued in the U.S. like the silver Limiteds.

Limited but plentiful. Makes sense - yet to see a factory capable of infinite output!

I don't really understand the focal length of 20-35 as a crop lens. On full frame, it would be pretty wide (although not as wide as some of the lenses out there now for full frame), but why not just go with a DA 21, otherwise?

Should've got them a few years back when everybody was bailing on Pentax. I don't have #3, BTW. But I may be selling all my FA*'s - getting too heavy for me to carry around, and really could use the WA stuff around here. Keep watching the marketplace - it'll go up for sale there first.

Yeah, 30-52 is kind of weird.

Cheers,

Yes, they've been in this list all the time:
Interchangeable Lenses : Digital Cameras : Products : PENTAX

(while the 16-45 has been discontinued in Japan a while now)

It's actually much higher, but obviously that's because of the state of the current economy. If you check the lens reviews, you'll see that the price used to be lower: SMC Pentax-FA 20-35mm F4 AL Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database
